I still prefer *bin over Lemmy for the UI and the domain-blocking feature, even with Lemmy having post-hiding features. 🙂
Hopefully the issues are waning nearly a week after the original post! But what I would do, in a case of waking up both early and stressed for whatever reason, is also to check music, specifically going through my selection at random until one that clicks is selected. Usually also they’re power metal, symphonic metal or related, the cheesy stuff as I like to say, but it helps me kickstart the day 😅
Regarding DMs, my experience on other social medias is that people seem to take DMs as “their own home” - even if the door is either ajar or fully open, it’s impolite or even offending to enter without being invited first.
Regarding interacting with communities, some may see an unidentified profile as someone’s alt or, as mentioned by you, a bot, and other than making well founded points, I don’t see much that could be done to mitigate mistrust towards blank profiles.
And regarding Reddit specifically, I don’t know if it’s a flawed design, a flawed and long-going moderation, the platform being parasited by problematic users and external groups, or a mix of the 3, but even marginally big communities and even before Spez’s stunts, most communities I’ve seen there are a test on patience and composure.

I don’t know how much of a subset I am, but I still use dictionary softwares from Windows 95~2000 era and Android softwares on a completely offline and vanilla VM, partly due to internet randomly going bad, and partly because I am neurotic about digital contents vanishing once support ends.
Can it be used offline?
Personally, if I don’t see something as good for me, I move away as soon as possible. And in cases where there’s a mix between likeable and unlikeable figures and communities, I stick around only if blocking features hide those figures from my feed. Since often communities have their own cultures, but, or some times instead, some are worse than others, it makes things more easy.
