Or maybe I just want to chat with people about my age
Or maybe I just want to chat with people about my age
It is a lot easier to meet people in a big city. I live in New York City and am a member of a variety of groups where I could go out and hang with random people every night (and play trivia, board games, go drinking etc). Whether you’ll actually like them and they’ll turn into real friends is a separate issue.
Being able to walk everywhere, or most places, is a huge plus.
Not having as much of my own space (small apartment, no yard) is a downside for sure. The park is just not the same.
In the end, socialization requires effort and commitment either way.
I recommend therapy.
Poe’s law detector fail
Nazism is a very small subset of fascism, they are not equivalent. Nazi also carries VERY heavy baggage which is inapplicable to Trump. Use the right terms.
It’s dumb to call Trump a nazi and the populist wing of the Republican party nazis.
It’s not even clever at this point, maybe it was edgy and transgressive like 7 years ago.
The reason it’s dumb is that you are wasting all of your powerful language and you will have no more if things get worse. Boy who cried wolf. Just like people did to racist which used to carry great power and now is basically meaningless as a powerful descriptor.
What would your policy be for example if someone showed up and started debating on the side of Bad Team politics but doing so politely?
Some specific examples within lemmy.world that prompted this would be helpful (not a request for you specifically, a general request).
A big problem on reddit is debate-oriented communities aggressively stifling debate and banning people for opinions well within the outside-the-internet window of acceptable discourse. So I can see why lemmy.world would not want to go further down that route if it appeared as if it were beginning to happen. Reddit can semi-tolerate it because there enough users to form niche communities if the big ones are terrible. Lemmy has nowhere near enough people.
Unfortunately t can’t all be (1) or (2) because both extremes are terrible.
Thanks for the explanation and link
Your home instance is lemmy.world, which is outright defederated with all but lemmy.ml
Still learning. How are you here from lemmy.today if lemmy.world is defederated (maybe I don’t know what defederated means)
The “source” request is also annoying because it’s like, dude we’re just chatting here, no I’m not going to respond like this is some academic debate.
Least sensible discussion I’ve been in in a while
We could do laps on this all day. In the end if a trans person says they’re trans and this is what it means to them, I’ll take them at their word.
Imagine confusing gender and sex in 2025
I had one of his books of short stories when I was a teen (The Cyberiad) and loved it…meaning to read more of his work
Read this many years ago and enjoyed. Great recommendation in the spirit of this thread (for anyone who has not read it)
Like I said, takes that at least aren’t entirely predictable. If you’ve never been in such a discussion forum you should join one, it is refreshing.
We’re still here.
Generation discourse honestly panders to the lowest common denominator intellect. People who constantly talk about boomers or millennials are usually pretty dumb.
The reason you don’t hear much about Gen X is “we” didn’t cause anything culturally significant in an enduring when “we” were in our 20s.
