I’ve been telling my Salvadoran family since he was elected that this guy was gonna be trouble. They all point to the lower crime rate. When I point out the suspension of civil liberties, the unacceptable prison conditions and the fact that many innocent people are rotting in those prisons and my family, point to the lower crime rates. If I mention that once the gang members are gone, these mega prisons will need new victims from the next batch of undesirables, their response is to once again point at the lower crime rate.

I come from a country where the parks got taken and turned into permanent shanty towns. I don’t know why anyone would want that in their city, or for them to be roaming the subway. That is not a solution, that only makes other city services worse. This is a better solution, so long as they’re picking good spaces where they won’t get taken down by the city.
