  • And there really isn’t much posting in any of them. It’s hard, because I am a fan of smaller NFL and CFB teams, and it’s just me posting stuff with no discussion. So it gets to a point you feel like you’re being annoying about it. I do Supercross discussion threads for people if they wanna join in, in an admittedly small community (even the Reddit one was like…maybe 200 active users, 30k total subs). I have been the only commenter there for over a year lol.

  • Yes, but more because of the gathering of friends and less because the game is on. I’d prefer neither team win (I’ll be watching with a lot of Eagles fans, and as a Titans fan, I don’t want anyone being happy). Idk if I’d say the CFP stole the spotlight either, I’m almost certain the Superbowl always gets way more viewers than any other sporting event. NFL is just really leaning into narratives for casual viewers because they know NFL fans are gonna watch regardless.

  • Is it something actually meaningful or is it just general choices through your day?

I’ve turned the meaningless stuff into a game with people I know. If it’s just a decision effecting me, I’ll text someone and say “pick a number 1-10”. I’ll assign even or odd to “do x” or “don’t do x” and depending on what they pick, my choice is made. If it’s a group decision (go to bar, stay in, where to eat, what movie, etc) then I have an app on my phone for “Spin the Wheel” and we spin it to see what choice is made. We “leave it up to fate” now lol.

Also, if you feel really strongly about something but don’t want to commit, it can help push you. If I really want to eat somewhere but don’t wanna force it, I either have to accept a different choice or make myself do it. Anyone is “allowed” to intervene before the wheel has done to make their choice known.

We also don’t do best 2 of 3, or respins. It’s ond and done; fate is never wrong.

  • I had a similar issue with my Civic from the factory. Not to take their side on it, but same issue. Driver side rear light, and the section on the trunk.

I took it as an opportunity to do some work on my own, and replaced all the rear lights (the single replacement OEM light was like $200, and a new set of sequential LED lights was $300 and looked much better). It’s not too bad of a job, took me an afternoon cause I’m way overly cautious with stuff. Around the same time frame too; mine is an '18 and I did it in '21 I think.

  • Idk. All my personal experience in retail says they always preach about fluidity in position, benefits of working there, and how freeing it is to have a job where you just show up, do work, and leave.

In college, I was demanded to work 60 hours a week (I was part-time) with any call offs without prior approval a fireable offense (at-will state) While college classes started, which is why we were so busy. And then I got fired anyway; I’d worked for 2 1/2 years there. I bought jumper cables to jump start another employees car; I was told to do this by a manager. So I did. But I was the only one working customer service; for 2 days, I couldn’t return them. I was a broke college student, I needed my $20. So another employee came through at some point, and I had them return it. They kept the money, so I didn’t pocket cash out of the register, and then I got the money after my shift. Then I got fired, because I scanned my receipt while I was logged into the computer. Didn’t matter that I was on camera, not returning it to myself. The printout said I did it, so I was fired. They did invite me to re-apply in 90 days when I was taken off the blacklist. I worked in retail for another maybe 6 or 7 years, so I wasn’t jaded against retail just against that company. Retail is just that soulless.

I expect you’ll are in a short staffed store with unrealistic expectations and people over you in similar positions, with greater demands on them, also trying to move up. I’ve had people work at Lowes and it’s the same retail story; It’s lobsters in a pot pulling each other down to get out.

I hope it works out though, I really do. It’s a publicly traded company though; it demands more profits and quarterly growth. At the end of the day, what is going to matter? Employees getting out of the rat race and being comfortable, or shareholder profits?

  • I would be very hesitant about anyone saying it’s quick and easy to move up if you just put in time. Big box stores seem to have pipelines into management through business schools. The highest I’ve ever seen someone get into without specific education was a department manager. Assistant managers always came from other stores into training roles, or out of a school business program. Across multiple retail stores, general and specialized, and currently work in employment services helping people find employment. They just rarely do this, and the pyramid gets very narrow once you get past the store level.

And maybe I’m jaded by the retail industry in general, but every CEO is slick talking and confidence inspiring. You don’t get there without it. The work-life balance will also be gone once the holidays come around, and you find out the store is perpetually understaffed, and you will get an instant termination for missing a scheduled shift on Black Friday, Xmas Eve, or New Years Eve.

  • I guess the plus side is, Pei left 1+ because he didn’t like where they were going and felt restricted, so maybe it’s purely a money thing? He’s shown he’s successful in the market with his vision, so I’ll assume it’s just financial backing and no pressure from the “board”?

    I’m coping hard rn lmao

  • As many others have said, you don’t. That may be part of the devisive-ness experienced here currently, but when one side is stating that the military should be used on dissenters, and the other side needs slaughtered, and they’re talking about deporting detractors currently in govt, it’s addition by subtraction. Should my side win, I don’t expect any kind of persecution of people I don’t agree with. Should the other side win, they are functionally demanding it.

“You won’t have to vote anymore” is an insane statement from a democratic candidate. “We’ll fix it so good, you won’t have to vote”. And people are on the fence. It’s disgusting. Choose a fucking side and vote it.
