I always loved this one from my fridge:
When people blur the background my only thought is they simply want privacy. It’s their personal space so it doesn’t need to be presented to everyone. What people do with their home is not my concern.
Jemand hat mir in die Stiefel geschissen!
Same. It somehow stuck with me ever since.

What is there to converse about? Some people seem to confuse asklemmy with Google.
This one works pretty good for most modern TVs and is generally well made: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/tv-remote-tv-fernbedienung/id1539419805
It does have a subscription but it’s for premium features you might not even care for.
Though I would look into your current setup. If your TV supports HDMI ARC and your Apple TV is connected to that, it should be able to control the volume and also turn it on/off.
My AEG has been steadily running for 15 years in my possession. It was used already when I got it. It’s a very simple one with no alarm, no display, not even a tiny one with a timer. Just a dial and a start button. The door sometimes needs an extra push to lock fully.
I rarely even participate in these. But back then I won a Logitech MX518 (the original) at a competition of a PC hardware magazine.
Maybe best is to just continue using their preferred pronouns as if nothing happened, and be kind to everyone. That will already show your support and he might come to you if there is anything to talk about.
I hope all the other colleagues are supportive as well, I would have a close eye on everyone now.
If I wish happy birthday to friends every year but never get anything from them I will be suspicious if they even care for me, yes.
Everyone has smart phones and already adds people’s phone numbers in their contacts. Just add their birthdays as well and you will be reminded. If you don’t, you don’t care.
Another win for home offices!
Boss called me in because his computer was slow. What I saw was a desktop filled to the last pixel with files, stacked on top of each other and hundreds of open browser windows with hundreds of tabs each and a blurry background image of the building we were in (honestly a beautiful old, restored building but it was his whole identity). I had no words.
Schools need to teach media literacy. So if I had to do anything it would be this.
Since I had a dog I got so used to waking up early that I don’t even need an alarm anymore. Though waking up and getting up are different issues. It helps to have the smart lights turn on in the morning and of course going to bed early enough.
By that time I really wanted to stop because I realized how every inhale put another layer of tar on my lungs and that thought alone made me feel bad about it. I believe the disgusting images they had to put on cigarette packs at some point in Germany made an impact on me.
It also helped a lot that less and less friends were smoking and that I had a significant change in my life due to me getting a dog at the same time, so I kinda went with the flow.
Stopped smoking 7 years ago. I tried it two times before without success. This time was easy. Mindset is everything.
My 20s were complete garbage. I can’t remember most of what happened there because nothing ever happened. At the end I didn’t see any hope for myself and had some disturbing thoughts. But I’ve come around somehow and met my now best friends and many other nice people during my 30s. I owe them my life basically. Though I still have trouble finding romantic connection and I’m not trying anymore.
Where I meet people: At work, neighbors, hiking or board game groups
I think it’s important to get out and meet many different people, even without ever becoming friends. You learn social skills, you have more things to talk about with others, you feel more accepted in general, it’s a spiral upwards.
