I am very new to programming so as of now I’m not doing much more than simple shell scripts and C programs to do basic CLI things lol. I’m talking the Harvard CS50x course which has been a real treat. I’m no “programmer” yet but someday I hope I can make applications. I really enjoy C and have an interest in Java, Zig and PHP (mostly because my buddy loves PHP and doesn’t shut up about it)

OP, please download some FOSS software and tell me how friendly it is to use. As an arch (btw) user who primarily uses FOSS, they’re definitely not generally better than proprietary.

It certainly isn’t fast but Acode is seriously amazing for its functionality. It even supports keyboard commands with a command key plugin, which let’s you do things like move lines, select within parenthesis, run code, etc.

I’m a bit of a luddite though, I don’t really care much for major IDEs and i prefer to write in simple code editors like Kate and do my debugging with the compiler and gdb.

This nerd does! I’m taking a CS course and being able to access my git and make changes if I get an idea while I’m on the go is very useful.

I was on EndeavourOS for a couple of years and now I’m just on vanilla Arch with KDE and I also couldn’t imagine just dumping all of my knowledge and problem solving workflow by jumping to a different distro or architecture. I certainly can’t see myself ever using Windows again. It’s very weird to imagine that if I ever wanted a flagship computer I would probably buy an Apple.

Yes and it treats fungal infections in tree frogs. I’m not trying to say that these medicines work the way that Gibson is saying they do, but the whole “horse dewormer” talking point is dishonest as it makes it out like these medicines have only a single use. I doubt ivermectin treats covid or whatever. I’ve had good friends who were Europeans studying here, and they can definitely be very insensitive and racist. What makes the two flavors of racism different to me is American racism is typically very confrontational, tribalistic. White man calling a black man a slur, and there’s something cavalier about it, maybe even humorous on the part of the racist.

Europeans have a much more “it is the way it is” attitude. I’ve heard friends talk very disparagingly about interracial couples, or blacks in general, and the attitude is less “hate for hate’s sake” but instead “it is the wrong way to be and my way is correct”. Fascinatingly, when you point out the bigotry, my friends have typically refused to accept their bias (at best), and will deny they’re racist.
