  • It’s a mess for my team in terms of:

    • someone’s video isn’t showing for anyone else
    • someone can’t see anyone else’s video
    • it resets my camera settings every time I restart it
    • microphone settings seem to randomly break, so we always have people running off to grab backup headsets.
    • it’s missing thread features (like in slack) so branching discussions are a fucking mess.
    • most of my team uses Linux and the screen-sharing as well as file/picture sharing rarely works right.

Before we used a combination of Slack (for text communication) and Google Meet (for video) which was much more reliable a day functional.

  • The poorest inhabitant of the USA has rights, possibilities and duties that only the richest in any other country can only dream of.

Sorry but this is the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever read.

I grew up in an area of the US with poverty issues and now live in Europe. The lives of poor Americans are so much worse than where I live now (central europe) that it’s almost hard to fathom. Poverty in the US is systematically CRUSHING and can be near impossible to escape. It’s a soul-destroying existence…

There are certainly places which are worse, but we just don’t have that here in Europe to nearly the same extent! I’m far from rich, but life is much nicer here…

  • I went through a pretty big libertarian phase way back in my late teens.

Not the ‘deregulate everything’ type, but rather more of a ‘everyone’s place in society is governed by the choices they make’ social-darwinist sort of angle.

Once I got out and experienced real life more (and learned about all the little nuances behind everything) I realized just how wrong I was.

    Nowadays I’m a big leftist/socialist

  • It’s not colonialism to prefer one culture (or certain cultural traits) to another. In fact, it’s natural.

I’ve lived in a number of countries and each had their own distinct cultural norms. Each has had aspects which I perceived as either positive or negative.

Add it all together and I definitely have preferred certain cultures, not because they are “better” but because they more closely match my own preferences. Other people would prefer different cultural norms.
