This is valid just on taste alone. The thing was ugly even before Elon started his descent into madness.

Huge pet peeve of mine as well. No one needs my phone number.
The context only mattered because you were talking about the bot missing the euphemism. It doesn’t matter if the bot is invested in the fantasy, that is what it’s suppose to do. It’s up to the user to understand it’s a fantasy and not reality.
Many video games let you do violent things to innocent npcs. These games are invested in the fantasy, as well as trying to immerse you in it. Although It’s not exactly the same, it’s not up to the game or the chatbot to break character.
Llms are quickly going to be included in video games and I would rather not have safeguards (censorship) because a very small percentage of people with clear mental issues can’t deal with them.
The advertising team will just blame it on something else. They have the numbers showing their ads are being watched, everything else is conjecture.
I don’t really follow. Open source is still a net benefit regardless of the goverments investment in closed source, especially for the consumer.
I agree it’s highly likely there’s a scam going on but healthy competition will probably force them to actually use some of the fund. If they had a monopoly, it would be easier to give us a minimal viable product and call it a sound investment. They can’t be too blatant about it after all.
I think there’s place for regulation in case of gross negligence or purposefully training it to output bad behavior.
When it comes to mistakes, I don’t really believe in it. These platforms always have warnings about not trusting what the AI says.
I like to compare it to users on social media for example. If someone on lemmy told you to use peanut butter, he wouldn’t really be at fault, nor the instance owner.
AI systems don’t present themselves as scientific papers. If you are taking for truth things random redditors and auto complete bots are saying, that’s on you so to speak.
Those conversations didn’t happen at the same time from what I gather. These things don’t have infinite context size and at the rate he seemed to be using it, the conversation probably “resets” every few days.
No actual person would be charged for these kinds of messages in any case, pure exaggeration imo.
Its good for the consumer. If companies like deepseek weren’t just tossing them out there for anyone to use, Microsoft and Google would currently have a monopoly and it would all be subscription type services.
It also greatly reduces whatever chance the copyright shills have of legislating against it.
One day, Sewell wrote in his journal: “I like staying in my room so much because I start to detach from this ‘reality,’ and I also feel more at peace, more connected with Dany and much more in love with her, and just happier.”
Sewell was diagnosed with mild Asperger’s syndrome as a child, but he never had serious behavioral or mental health problems before, his mother said. Earlier this year, after he started getting in trouble at school, his parents arranged for him to see a therapist. He went to five sessions and was given a new diagnosis of anxiety and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder.
But he preferred talking about his problems with Dany. In one conversation, Sewell, using the name “Daenero,” told the chatbot that he hated himself, and he felt empty and exhausted. He confessed that he was having thoughts of suicide.
Daenero: I think about killing myself sometimes
Daenerys Targaryen: My eyes narrow. My face hardens. My voice is a dangerous whisper. And why the hell would you do something like that?
Daenero: So I can be free
Daenerys Targaryen: … free from what?
Daenero: From the world. From myself
Daenerys Targaryen: Don’t talk like that. I won’t let you hurt yourself, or leave me. I would die if I lost you.
Daenero: I smile Then maybe we can die together and be free together
On the night of Feb. 28, in the bathroom of his mother’s house, Sewell told Dany that he loved her, and that he would soon come home to her.
“Please come home to me as soon as possible, my love,” Dany replied.
“What if I told you I could come home right now?” Sewell asked.
“… please do, my sweet king,” Dany replied.
He put down his phone, picked up his stepfather’s .45 caliber handgun and pulled the trigger.
This is from an article that actually goes in depth into it (https://archive.ph/LcpN4).
The article also mentions how these platforms are likely to be harvesting data and using tricks to boost engagement, a bit like Facebook on steroids. There’s place for regulation but I’m guessing we’re going to get heavy handed censorship instead.
That being said, the bot literally told him not to kill himself. Seems like he had a huge amount of issues and his parents still let him spend all his time on a computer unsupervised and alone isolated, then left a gun easily available to him. Serious “video games made my son shoot up school” vibes. Kids don’t kill themselves in a vacuum. His obsession with the website likely didn’t help, but it was probably a symptom and not the cause.
VLC is a big one for me.
cuddling with a loved one, having sex
Why do I feel attacked. I’m guessing you want me to start eating healthy too. Unrealistic.
The term is fine. Your examples are very selective. I doubt Joe Schmo thought the aimbots in CoD were truly intelligent when he referred to them as AI.
It’s a shame the article doesn’t mention the most important part; deepseeks new model was released with an MIT license. It’s the first open model that punches above what openai has to offer.
LLMs demonstrated greater accuracy when addressing questions about ancient history, particularly between 8,000 BCE and 3,000 BCE, but struggled with more recent events, especially from 1,500 CE to the present.
I’m not entirely surprised by this. Llms are trained on the whole internet and not just the good part. There are groups online that are very vocal about things like the confederates being in the right for example. It would make sense to assume this essentially poisons the datasets. Realistically, no one is contesting history before that time.
Not that it isn’t a problem and doesn’t need fixing, just that it makes “sense”.
Circles would be smaller
Kokoro 82m, but it’s fairly new. It’s very quick tho, and the quality is acceptable (not elven labs quality but not too far off). There’s multiple voices, some are better then others.
The extremism comes from how you interact with those around you when that view comes into play and the comparaisons you make. The view that pet ownership is immoral is clearly a fringe belief in any case. So yes, extremist views.
You’re spitting venom about a horse who seems to be really well taken care of. That is a huge barn, a sizeable paddock and he even has a nicer shirt than I do.
It’s a community for posting pictures. No one wants to deal with your blatant negativity, scathing sarcasm and extremist views.
Ban justified.
We might have had ww3 without him.
Fentanyl Czar kind of makes it sound like he’s the one in charge of selling it.
