  • Piracy

    Why is this a “Life Hack”? Because it saves A LOT of money.

    It might be “wrong” to some people, but its not even controvertial for me. I’m bored af, and want more entertainment, the economy (not sure if “economy” is the right word) is fucked up, we don’t get paid enough. I ain’t paying a dime. (Maybe I might if we actually had a living wage, but most us are underpaid 😓)

    Copying =/= Theft

    Just Do It ✅️ (see what I did? I just “pirated” a trademarked slogan, IDGAF lol)

    Also I don’t care about it if it were theft. I’d shoplift too if I could get away with it as easy as with piracy. Use Direct Downloads, or if torrenting, get VPN. VPNs are cheaper than like 10+ subscriptions and you get to keep everything you download, forever. You could also share the cost of VPN with a few of your fellow pirates (if the providers allow multi-device)

    Piracy Resources: !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com (blocked by lemmy.world instance btw)

  • Damn, they blocked Tor Browser.

    I went to Fennec with uBlock on and VPN enabled (privacy reasons), the first thing I see is a download attempt of the 小红书 .apk file. I tap X, and it does it again. Damn, seem like Reddit all over again. 🤦‍♂️

    Also, they require a +86 phone number for registration. 🤔 Not a fan of that. Its like Facebook + region locking. Well I guess it make sense… too many TikTok refugees lol.

    I had to change to user agent to windows. The comments are pretty chill, unlike some other Chinese sites. I don’t see any “MAGA” type comments like you would see on twitter.

    Edit: Hmm my webpage only shows like 10 comments, then stops showing… 🤔

  • Nobody knows. They’ve existed for a while, I haven’t heard anything of such claims.

    If you want to absolute be safe, only download open source clients complied by yourself (and hope that somebody is constantly looking through the source code for potential backdoors). F-Droid comiles the source for you for the Android client. Encryption is done on the client before sent to servers.

    However, if Tuta were secretly evil, they could log IPs and know the email addresses you send/receive to/from. Anything in plaintext will be seen, and you are only relying on their promise to not keep a copy of it. And btw, most of your incoming emails from banks / other websites would be in plaintext, so they could theoreticallt store a plain text version before they encrypt and store it in your mailbox.

    But even then, all encrypted emails are safe even if Tuta were a honeypot (which you could never know for sure.

    Technically, Proton is the same category, if you compile your clients (and someone constantly checks the code for potential backdoors), then its still safe. People are only pre-emptively moving because they don’t feel safe with Proton due to the CEOs comments, and Tuta has never made such political comments.
