People in the north absolutely have a tendency to think we lre perfect up here and its only the south that has racism and bigotry. But its not remotely the case

Yeah it was a little weird wording. Im not in the trades. Trying to be vague because internet, but while I work WITH plumbers and HVAC specialists, and have previously worked in the field, Im not one myself.

I work in the trade industry. Most of these people are conservative boomers. The things these guys say are absolutely horrifying. It isnt just the older guys though. Its the blight of converativism. These dudes say things that sound like they should be said by someone 1000+ years ago or in Saudi Arabia or something. Im talking about not just racism, homophobia, mysoginy but also honor killings, reasons rape can be justified, flying into a blood rage because you feel another has offended your masculinity. Moving to rural America (even in the north) has been incredibly eye opening to how insanely backwards parts of our society is. You have no idea until you see it.

The amish are fucking awful dude. Theyre a cult that abuses and beats women and children, treating them like property. They run puppy mills churning out dogs in gorrible conditions. Also one that sounds rooted in a deeply right wing/bigoted style of thinking. “Men are inherently violent so we need to castrate them against their will to fit our view” wouldnt the much more logical conclusion be to try and change culture to one that discourages toxic masculinity? Not really. Usually its just the Grimm version. There’s no such thing as an “original” version to a folk tale. Or i suppose once there was but it was gone the second it was retold. That’s the nature of oral tradition. There were countless retellings of the various fairy tales with different endings than the ones The Grimm Brothers went with in their books.
