Lions Led By Donkeys! Weird and usually stupid military history, featuring everything from Roman warfare up to Vietnam.
I’ll also toss in Well There’s Your Problem. It’s an engineering disasters podcast. With slides (if you’re watching on YouTube).
Omnibus is also good in this vein. Ken Jennings and his friend go over some weird and obscure history you might not know about. It’s not very in-depth a lot, more factoids, but always pretty cool.
Indiana. Don’t forget that South Bend is basically the home of the third wave of the Klan.
Y’all forgot about Mr Freeze committing suicide-by-Batman.
This particular episode owes its life to Ira and Avery Brooks, from what I understand. The writer’s room and studio execs wanted it to be a trite little episode featuring Benny just trying to write the stories of Deep Space Nine and get them published. Avery said “hell no we’re doing an episode in the 50s with a black man, it really needs to be uncomfortable because that’s what Star Trek does best”.
Remember, one of the first things she did when she got on the ship was get into an argument with the chief engineer and break his fucking nose.
Atypical kids being left behind is a feature, not a bug. There’s a shocking amount of parents even in the year of our Lord 2024 who think we’re “too much” of a drain on schooling.
RFK Jr tried this before in 2022. He’s been trying to get the FDA to revoke approval for the vaccine, probably to snowball it into “we need to revoke all vaccine approvals”.
Never mind the entire ship got rigged with them during the Hirogen takeover.
I propose we lower Texas enough to flood the Great Plains and revive the Ordovician Sea.
And all because none of his actual children give two shits about Apartheid Daddy.
She’d better get the ball rolling fast. States are already looking at their divorce laws anticipating that no-fault divorce will get SCOTUS’d.
More and more I remember Kreia telling The Exile that “apathy is death”.
Nah, this one’s OFFFICIALLY non-governmental and just makes “suggestions”. Because you can’t just create new departments, nor get rid of them, without Congressional approval.
Arguably he’s done that one over and over in his speeches, and with the Central Park Five, and with the other people I’m sure he’s fantasized about killing over the years.
Nope, sorry. I can respect the process of election while also criticizing the man that got elected. Trump is a naked fascist, and Bannon just said as much - on his daily podcast, he all but said “we lied directly to your fucking faces when we said Trump didn’t have involvement or know anything about Project 2025”, and now we’re going to get every last thing that’s outlined in there. Every arm of government has a GOP majority who either owes their success to Trump or is massively already on his side. The checks and balances got swept away, and there is literally nothing, short of states just saying “no” (take a guess how long that’ll work) for Trump to implement anything he wants.
On top of that, SCOTUS already ruled “certain acts” (unspecified) are totally legal if the President does them, so expect to see that tested as to whether it extends to orders given to military, law enforcement, and executive orders that are explicitly illegal or unconstitutional.
Trump and his allies all but said they’d rip up the Constitution. When a person shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
Less “fascism is popular” and more “people are so desperate for SOMEBODY actually promising change that they’ll vote for anyone offering it, no matter if it’s good or bad.”
Status quo politics is pretty much dead in the water and arguably has been since 2016. People don’t want “I’ll keep everything on a steady course,” they want someone who sounds like they’re going to take charge, and Trump provided that.
They don’t get that. A lot of people are genuinely idiotic, especially in the US. They don’t think about the fact that their cellphone has parts from all over the world, or their car has pieces from 6 countries in it before being assembled in Georgia. They think “assembled in the US/Packaged in the US” means the whole thing, stem-to-stern, is from the US.
His SecDef is also floating massive restructuring within the military, likely to make it easier for orders to flow down from the top without obstruction from people who might have pesky things like a conscience.
