You can watch some videos on it but generally it’s not too hard. You buy the circuit board and solder all the parts on according to the instructions. The nixie tubes must be bought separately. They were only ever made in the USSR so most come from Russia. Buy extras because they are so old some fail. Then just power that sucker up. The tubes are quite fiddly and there are different types and sizes so you have to buy the board for the type you are building. The real fun is building the case of your choice.

Well we knew it had to be something. I mean most of Congress is too old to know what a tik tok is.

I MADE a clock with nixie tubes. I gave it a friend who is notoriously difficult to buy for. It was the only thing I’d ever heard him express an interest in that I knew he wouldn’t buy for himself. We both talked about how cool it was.

Now it sits on his entertainment center and every time I visit, I’m envious that I don’t have one. How stupid is that? I have to get around to building one for myself.

People always act like “how can company A be a thing when it isn’t profitable”. It isn’t about if company A is profitable. It’s about whether CEO A is making money. As long as that can happen and, you know, others at the top, company A is right on track.

I don’t actually have a favorite one. I made an art deco speaker I liked so much, I kept it and it seemed to sound better than some of the others, but I couldn’t ever find it again. Right now there are two chips that are commonly used. The TDA7498 and TPS3116. Even though the 3116 sounds better on paper, I prefer the TDA7498 for sound quality. Other than that just look for the features you like. I have never done the surround sound thing but it is definitely possible. You can get the parts you need at as place called partsxpress.com.

I’d keep my eye on the latter. The former is far less likely.

I build Bluetooth speakers. Super simple. There are literally 3 parts, a Bluetooth amplifier board, speakers, power. That’s it. Then you can spend time just making the box. Don’t have the skills to do that? No problem, just jam it all into something else. You could put it in virtually anything else, old can of Pringles, pizza box, Muppet, you name it.

Yeah, that’s exactly right. But also you missed the subtle undertones of how things are going so dystopian that soon oxygen may actually become a luxury.

As an Aliens fan, I absolutely hated this movie too. A lot of people I know we’re comparing them. I didn’t kill them. I swear.

Why? Hmmm, hard to say. Seems obvious to me. I’m totally ok with a love story but I don’t really care for romance stories. Let me explain the difference to me. I’m not saying this is a formal definition. To me a love story is drama and romance is melodrama. It felt more like melodrama to me.

And to interest the men, let’s throw in a disaster flick. If people fall off the boat and hit the propeller on the way down, men will love it and women will love the rest. No pandering at all.

Plus screw the priceless gem, just toss it overboard.
