  • I never actually used Twitter, but recently made accounts on Mastodon, Bluesky, and Pixelfed.

Pixelfed has been my favorite of the three so far… I’m finding that the image-based focus means my feed is mostly fun stuff, that leaves me feeling happy, not gloom and doom of news, snark, etc.

I’m not sure how long I’ll use Mastodon, but I’ve been finding hashtags and users that I’m interested in following and interacting with, and the keyword filters have allowed me to limit (but not eliminate) the depressing stuff.

Bluesky pissed me the fuck off since I couldn’t find a way to follow hashtags, only users, and the Lists thing was just not what I wanted either. Bluesky’s filter is disappointing compares to Mastodon’s too, since Mastodon allows you to hide filtered words behind a content warning or hide them completely, while Bluesky seems to only hide them completely.

  • Hmm. I did find it in the OsmAnd app, but I’m very confused. I think it’s just showing me trip durations, not actual schedules, and definitely not live bus data, nor any option to find routes based on a specific departure or arrival time. For the route I tested, it gave me 4 different options, all of which list a departure time of 0:00, even though it’s early afternoon here.

Digging around the other apps I use, it looks like the live transit data that I’m used to is free to access. Is there something I need to do to get that linked up?

  • I’d have to say shells, particularly the “shells & cheese” size. I always have quite a few shells stick together and end up undercooked, and I don’t really encounter that challenge with other shapes.

I actually like orzo a lot, but I’ve always had it in dishes where it behaves like (and is possibly mixed with) rice. I think it adds a nice (creamy?) balance to some other carby things, such as a veggies. Trader Joe’s sells one that really like that has orzo mixed with spinach, sundried tomatoes, and feta(?) cheese.

  • Thank you, I mostly just wanted to quickly point out the weaknesses of asking such a question here and only here, but I really appreciate your reply. I was not in a position to elaborate at the moment, so I really do appreciate someone else elaborting & providing additional perspectives, and while we may not necessarily see eye to eye, I think you’ve pointed out some differences (in a relatively neutral way) that are important for users to be aware of when they navigate the various instances.

While I’m posting from .world, this was never intended as my “primary” account. My “primary” account was on kbin, and now that I’ve accepted that kbin isn’t coming back, I’ve been wanting to move somewhere else for my main account, but life + ADHD + too many choices has been getting in the way of that, and many other things I need to do. I hate signing up for things, so I’m hoping my next instance will be a good fit for me for a good while.

  • None of these have Jan 1 as the start date, but…

    • I’m getting laid off, so getting a new job is top priority.
    • Continue improving my physical fitness by being more consistent in my running and strength training. I cancelled my gym membership a little over a year ago, and have been struggling with consistency ever since.
Running outside is so much more enjoyable than running on a treadmill, but I struggle to get myself moving when it’s too cold/wet/dark/hot/sunny outside.
    • I deleted Windows and installed Linux Mint on my “primary” laptop, and it’s good enough for my basic needs, but I want to spend some time getting more comfortable with more complicated things, as I’ve already run into a few tasks that I had to either give up on or switch to a different device for.

  • I wouldn’t say this is my favorite TV episode ever, but my favorite episode from a specific show that I don’t see mentioned elsewhere: Corporate “Natural Beauty” (Season 2, Episode 3). It pokes fun at the different expectations, etc., that men and women face, particularly in the workplace.

The opening scene shows the female character going through her long morning routine, with occasional cuts to the male character repeatedly hitting the snooze button before rolling out of bed and spending 30 seconds getting dressed. When they each arrive at the office, he’s complimented on his appearance, and she’s told that she looks tired.

  • Nah, but the closest he ever comes to acting “excited” is when he’s upset. For string cheese or kibble (his other favorite), he’ll get close by, then just sit and stare. He might reach out with a paw if I ignore him, but he’s kinda aloof. He’s also very much a grazer, and not super food motivated. In fact, when he was an only kitty, I’d throw a treat, he’d chase it, catch it, then look up at me to throw the next instead of eating it. So, I’d throw a few, then pick them all up and throw them again and again, and eventually he’d start eating them. Once I adopted a second cat, he learned to eat them right away.

My other cat had digestive troubles for the first year, so I haven’t given him any cheese, but he’s way more food motivated and often yells at me while I’m taking too long to prepare his meals. If he ever catches on to the cheese thing, he’d probably have a similar response to your cat.
