  • Depends on the entry I suppose. A liquid being sprayed out you’d imagine would do exactly that (assuming it’s not being heated by sunlight), but that’s probably because spraying means it’s a lot of tiny droplets, all with very little heat energy individually and lots of surface area to lose it. A big block of something like hot metal wouldn’t suddenly freeze, but cool as fast as its surfaces could radiate the internal heat.

This is going strictly as a thought experiment, the math or physics is probably different to some degree.

  • That moment is when he was asked at a Covid press conference the softest of softball questions.

Peter Alexander, White House correspondent at NBC News, asked the US president: “What do you say to Americans, who are watching you right now, who are scared?” Erupting in anger, Trump unleashed a tirade: “I say that you’re a terrible reporter. That’s what I say. I think it’s a very nasty question and I think it’s a very bad signal that you’re putting out to the American people.”

He failed on the lesson of not letting a crisis go to waste. His only advantage is Americans, but particularly his base of supporters, don’t recognize these as failures or simply have a low retention for remembering anything.

  • All versions of Star Trek have their high and low points. The debate should be which ones managed to do that enough times. Because that’s more of a subjective measure people are going to differ on what they like, so we get the disagreement of what’s “best” or “real”. In the end they all are tied to the Star Trek universe and concepts, just aren’t the same in how they present and tell the stories. I don’t like Discovery for a number of reasons, but I have seen a few parts where it felt TOS/TNG Star Trek level for a bit.

And I know this is just visual media, but I’m a rarity who likes the alternate future of the Star Fleet Battles board game that was based on TOS ships and history but expanded much differently ways. TNG and later loosely used some of the ideas in their various plots. The Borg are absolutely a variant of the Andromedans, sans a cube ship.

  • I like my job in the sense of the overall purpose fulfilled each day, and I enjoy the logistical challenges I often face. What makes me not like coming to work and more and more looking forward to retirement is dealing with the people. Some of the workers, most of the management, and having to make things happen despite higher up decisions made for the company.

The great thing is that for the most part each day is its own thing, so I rarely have to walk into the next week and dread a continuing issue rolling over. It’s always new problems for that day to resolve, and I don’t mind the ones that normally come with the job. Just the ones created by those in charge that seemingly have never set foot in the field to see how their spreadsheet numbers really affect things.
