  • I like it for the unifying experience it is. We all do it, it becomes part of our education and gives us the feel of all being Swiss besides our different cultures and languages.

But seeing every votes results (Röstigraben, cities vs countryside) proves that it is not a huge success 😅

One thing I don’t like at all is that in order to climb high hierarchy in some companies, you have to be a former military officer, preferably Swiss-German (bonus point if you’ve done a shit economy school).

When I started learning my job we could do our military service AT work as it was considered to be an essential nation wide security job. I did not profit from this but the deal was to go to work in military uniform, getting your salary paid by the military while continuing to work for your boss. Definitely a win for the company and a huge financial loss for the confederation. They stopped that when they realized it was dumb to pay salaries to people not actually working for you.

  • In Switzerland we do mandatory military service or public service if you don’t do the military.

Both are ok, I only know the military but it’s a good experience. At first you don’t really want to do it but then you have a lot of fun, drink tons of cheap beers and learn to shoot (skill that you have to maintain for several years with mandatory shooting sessions).

Overall it’s more of a school of life rather than military school. I knew people in the medics and they did jack shit. I was in DCA and did jack shit. Most people I talk to did dumb stuff and most of us have good and funny memories from that time.

Is this a useful military force? Probably not, but we are Switzerland so who cares?

  • I also didn’t think citing a message on something Musk owns as a gesture of emphasis would be seen in an anti-US-politics community as synonymous with supporting Musk.

It does not, or it should not. It’s more like that Xitter (wordplay of X + twitter + shitter if you didn’t know) has been kind of the worst part of internet for years now, even before Musk. When shit goes bad on internet it’s either 4chan or twitter.

So it makes sense that the leftist pro libre gang of Linux users we are would hate anything about that website.

I was only responding to your initial question (which is funny), who is Xitter link?

I’m pretty sure that posting the same link by using an alternative Xitter interface (like Nitter was but I don’t know them) would have avoid you any backlash on lemmy.

  • It’s not only the salute but other things as well.

It’s about him being able to do plausible deniability, the salute taken alone could be a mistake from a stressful situation speaking in front of thousands of people, or a badly executed heart gesture, or whatever excuses people are saying.

But the salute + pepe the frog + kek + plenty of other signs = a trail of shit.

Separated they are only unimportant signs that those who knows knows, the rest will just dismiss them. But all together they form a message.

Besides, the salute was debunked by who ? There’s plenty of historians, journalists and whatever in the world saying that it was indeed a nazi salute.

Hell even US neo nazis said it was a nazi salute, they celebrated it.

  • Most of political posts are about the US so with only a few keywords you can filter out 80% of the shit news (mine are Trump, Musk, Democrat, Republican).

Then you add some if you want (Israel ? Palestine ? Russia ? Or some of your country specific themes)

The only problem is that if the words are on an image and not title it won’t be filtered. But you can fine tune your blacklist with time by blocking url, users, communities and instances.

That + mostly browsing by subscribed made my lemmy the perfect happy bubble.
