  • It’s just your personal belief against someone else’s personal belief. That’s not history.

In historical terms, we have a primary source mentioning these people. Historians do not automatically trust primary sources. But they also don’t ignore them because of personal biases against religion.

It’s fine for you to have personal biases, but please don’t claim how you’re applying your personal beliefs onto history is anything resembling how real historians analyze historical documents.

  • Yeah but the others are US companies. They can be regulated. Which they don’t want and they will at least make an effort to get rid of at least the obvious disinformation.

With TikTok, there is no middle ground. Can’t keep them in line with the threat of regulation as they’re a foreign company. Operating in the country that has superseded Russia as the biggest source of disinformation. The only leverage they have is the threat to ban it outright.

Besides, Zuckerberg and Musk live in the US. They don’t want things to get too bad. Though they’re so disconnected from reality they may inadvertently make things bad. But they at least have an incentive to not have the US go to shit.

With TikTok, US cities could burn to the ground and they’ll still be fine. And we see TikTok making people particularly unhinged already.

  • It’s a firehouse of falsehood kind of thing. Fragment people’s concept of reality to the point where people can’t even have a conversation.

The “question your beliefs” crowd is just people trying to create an alternate (and false) narrative so they can control you.

And that’s all hexbear ever does. People not as naive as you are about these things find them to be a waste of time and they do nothing other than interrupt actual conversations based in reality. Which isn’t healthy for a discussion forum.

  • Couldn’t agree more. Socialists with their hammers and sickles and Che Guevara t-shirts are accomplishing nothing. People need to let go of their fantasy of having people they disagree with them someday saying “I was completely wrong about socialism, you were right, I will never doubt you again!”

Though at this point Americans don’t even like the term “New Deal” because they’ve been told the economic policies of FDR (which pulled the country out of the Great Depression) were bad. So “Great America Deal” may not work. Biden tried “Build Back Better” but that was too lame. But yeah, gotta find a phrase people like and put it on a hat.

  • Whoops I took a break for a while. Anyway, you always get on a horse from the left side because back in the day a right handed person would have their sword on their left hip. Getting on the horse from the right side would likely result in the horse getting jabbed with the sword. If you’re riding down the right side of the road you’d have to go out onto the road to get on your horse. But on the left you can more easily mount and dismount if you gotta take a piss or whatever.

Also if you’re passing some one on the left, your weapon is in your right hand, so you’re ready to stab if need be. Of course it was customary to raise your right hand to show you had no weapon in it when you met someone, but you gotta be ready to draw and fight. Fucking bandits are everywhere ya know. So keep an eye on the other guy’s right hand as you pass by, just in case he tries something.

Kinda the opposite really. They had horses and wagons and carriages which needed rules about which side of the road to drive on long before cars were invented. The left side was the natural side for horsey reasons and most of the world got around on the left until Napoleon came around and forced mainland Europe to switch.

So the map depicts in red the European countries conquered by Napoleon and their colonies as well as the countries later influenced by the US.

  • Now you’re talking about CEOs as a nebulous they.

I’m talking about a CEO that said things similar to what an amazon exec said under an article about what that amazon exec said.

Also I work in software development. There has been a clear uptick in negativity towards developers where I work, which happens to be in a similar field to the one in the article.

I’ve also worked with AWS, and I can tell you for sure, they can’t afford to lose their best talent. Their system is pretty janky in many places and their boss should be putting more effort in making better software instead of playing games about forcing people to sit in a specific chair 5 days per week.

  • lemmy.ml tends to have an immature userbase with immature mods. It’s a weird bubble of insane extremists that are all about ideological purity tests. They aren’t really interested in discussion and will ban anyone that doesn’t conform to their extremism. And their extremists are constantly edging towards stochastic terrorism.

So needless to say, I’m banned from lemmy.ml, and I feel like that’s a badge of honour. But that does mean I won’t be engaging with any community that’s hosted on lemmy.ml.

So if you want to have discussion that’s not about how super awesome the violent overthrow of the government of your country would be, I’d recommend not hosting your community on lemmy.ml.
