Oh yeah, my parents certainly believe Stargate is created by artists trying casually reveal “the truth”, not in a literal sense, but one that is very open to interpretation. Somehow (and especially to my mom) if some artist, like a singer or a writer, creates something that is adjacent to her beliefs she’ll feel validated about them.
The tech being drip-fed into the public is also one, connected directly to the one where “the military” has super advanced technology.
And same with water. My parents already believe in homeopathy, and everything that comes with it. So water has a special “memory” that can somehow be imprinted and change its properties. Same goes with influencing water with sound or light.
And of course, they have INSANE distrust for doctors. Or literally anyone in a professional position. I think, with their beliefs, if you’re in a professional position you’re part of the system that hides and lies to the population, a mandate of “them” in control, to keep everyone stupid and complacent. So anyone in a professional position is an enemy, a malicious entity out to get you.
Yeah, I remember when my step dad has a period he believed this. He would find ways to tune music back to how it’s “supposed” to sound. Everything sounded horribly out of tune, but he’d just say it’s because we’ve all become so used to listening to music the “bad” way.
Jesus christ, where do I even begin? I have parents who are conspiracy nuts, so this’ll be quite a list. There’s a difference between my mom, step dad, and oldest little brother, though, as two of them believe in more occult crap.
Well, here we go…
There’s probably a lot more, but I’m tired of typing all this out.
Maybe on the keyboards. But as much as everyone is talking about sending CEOs to the guillotines, nobody is actually doing it. It’s just angry posting and venting on social media in between regular dull life moments.
I mean… I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who knew this was going to be a cringe edgelord action trope movie when it was announced for the very first time. Then when the trailer dropped it only helped reinforce that idea.
It’s not even worth pirating.
What’s the point of heaven? Does heaven even have a point? Say I believe in heaven, what happens if I die and go there? Will I just… Wake up and it’d just be Life 2.0?
As far as reality goes, there are only two points to living: the standard biological point of all life as we know it, and the one you create for yourself using your human intelligence.
I just wish I could download and install it, rather than have it require a constant Internet connection.
I mean… From the very first article written about the rough idea of the movie we all knew it was going to be trash, and certainly not anything deserving of the name “Star Trek”.
The moment the first trailer dropped a couple of years after that, I personally knew this movie wouldn’t even be worth pirating.
The effort I’d spend on finding a pirate source, and the time I’d waste watching this, are far too valuable.
It’s honestly cringe how NuTrek has been trying to make this a thing. No, Picard didn’t say “engage” because it was a catchphrase. It was never a catchphrase. It’s a standard command and we see other commanding officers give the exact same order.
Religion doesn’t make it different. People will still be trying to get their slice of the pie, but with religion it’ll be dressed up as divine, and righteous, and you’ll feel all warm and fuzzy about it. Ethics are what the priests in power say they are, and if your life is shit you can live happy knowing it’s all just a grand trial with a warm and benevolent reward at the end. Sounds to me like the middle ages.
I’d rather not live with dilusions.
Whichever is cheapest at the supermarket I’m currently in.
The Enterprise Strikes Back.
Photon toroedoes are more powerful than nuclear warheads. A fleet of Star Destroyers are needed to Delta Zero a planet. Star Trek has shown many times a single ship armed with photon torpedoes can devastate whole planets.
Star Destroyers rely on swarms of TIE fighters, tiny unshielded ships. But ships from Starfleet have shown that their phasers are accurate enough to insta-zap such small craft in rapid succession.
Starfleet ships have firing arcs that cover almost every direction. A Star Destroyer’s underbelly is woefully sparse of turrets.
Star Destroyers are slow, sluggish things. Ships in Star Trek tend to be far more maneuverable.
A fully functional, fully shielded Star Destroyer can get completely disabled by a few ion bursts. Most ships in Star Trek have no such weakness.
The engagement range of ships in Star Trek is measured in thousands of metres, and most shots fired land pretty accurately. A Star Destroyer needs to be practically on top of its target to engage it, and most shots still miss.
Star Trek has transporters. Star Wars doesn’t even know what those are.
The only thing I see as an advantage for the Star Destroyer is that the Galaxy Class is a glass canon. Before the Dominion War they could dish out incredible amounts of firepower, but take very little.
Also, this is assuming this is only a contest of technology. If a Force user gets involved… Well, Star Trek has a history of always being at the mercy of entities with powers, rather than tech.
Some of the biggest men on the Internet seem to have the biggest insecurities I’ve ever seen.
And what do third parties not associated with Musk say?
Musk has a history of “saying” things, and presenting mundane advancements that have already been achieved as things he invented.
Militant vegans always seemed cult-like to me, and nothing reinforced that idea more than seeing posts from the vegan group on here.
Didn’t take long for me to block that community.
Likewise.
Star Trek for the technology and exploration (both of space and the human condition). Star Wars because WOW that dude just moved that shit with his FREAKIN’ MIND!
Considering it’s DS9, the first report will likely be “the replicators stopped working… Again… For the third time in the last 24 hours…”
