Looks really neat. I have an old Kindle e-ink screen I scavenged, but I have no clue how to actually interface with it. Being able to hack around with one would be nice.

But on the bright side, that money (usually) goes right back into your local economy, instead of lining the pockets of some rich asshole from five states away who has a chain of grocery stores.
I think I’d rather just be a good community member and remind people to donate, and that it’s the cool and right thing to do as a FOSS user.
The example videos are pretty good. Only a few had obvious tells (like the Taylor Swift one), and the rest seemed pretty human-like.
But before everyone goes out and invests in OmniHuman-1 systems, remember that marketing campaigns always show the best they could make, not the average case most people are likely to get. Will it be good enough to trick the average consumer who’s not looking that hard? Maybe. I guess we’ll have to see.
But if all these generative models are so designed to replace the people upon whose videos they’re based, who/what will train the next generation of models, I wonder?
Surprisingly, yes. I’m flabbergasted every time someone says, “I’m tired of these ads. I’m going to download an adblocker. Got any recommendations?”
The whole globe is sliding right. It’s not a great day for anyone.
TBH, I think that’s giving too much credit to those in charge. They don’t want to be China’s or Russia’s puppet. They imagine themselves the puppeteers (whether that’s true or not).
It might. If it causes undue burden on ISPs or services like Cloudflare, for example, the law will probably be scrapped by some part of Congress or a judge.
And even if it somehow survives all of that, a VPN with a server in another country will make this bill pointless.
Easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Most companies are so big, getting caught is relatively cheap with how low the fines are compared to their annual profits.
It’s just a line item on their expense sheets, anymore, and most people don’t have the money to get the justice they deserve in court.
Pretty sure OP is an aspiring Opsec worker, and they want to show off what they have been working on. They also posted a “hack” earlier today for TailsOS that requires physical access to the device and the ability to boot a USB image to modify the existing system (and took some of our critiques to heart).
I don’t fault them for practicing this stuff, but I do wish they would include more context for why people should be interested in their hobby projects.
Hey! I heard you could get one of these fasc-mobiles for $75k, now!

Sorry to hear that, but at least some of them are not on Xitter.
That’s a shame. Ah, well.
Probably an effort to prevent scalping. Oh, how optimistic they were…
I think you’re maybe thinking of blendOS, which is immutable Arch, but it’s not specifically gaming focused. Afaik, there’s no gaming-focused immutable Arch distros, excepting the obvious SteamOS.
If you really wanted to, you could install ostree
on CachyOS, though I have no clue how you’d manage things like updates. PikaOS is based loosely on both CachyOS and Nobara, but it uses a Debian foundation, taking advantage of the same GitHub Actions that Bazzite uses; if one was so inclined, seems like you could roll your own immutable Arch gaming distro that way.
“And then they said it would effectively kill anime and other piracy!”
I used this! It was a godsend for people like me on a metered MVNO plan with only access to 3G towers and no home Wi-Fi (when you’re extremely poor, you make sacrifices).
That’s cool that it’s still available, and I bet there will be a resurgence of dumb phones in the coming years that would be glad to use it.
I wonder, though. I bet you can, in this case.
Hey, thanks! That’s really cool. I’ve never gotten a PCB made, but maybe this is a good first time to try it
