  • I am typing this on a pixel 8

Try disabling and removing the Google search bar. Can’t be done. Since Google search has gone down hill I never use it.

How about removing the the news feeds? You have to disable the Google app to get rid of it. If I want to read the news, I do a quick search. It’s not hard to do. I don’t need a news feed on my phone.

What about the stupid at a glance at the top of the home screen? It just takes up space for no benefit over the notification bar. It can’t be fully removed.

I also never us any voice assistant etc because it’s faster to type it in than repeat myself.

I currently have 19 apps on this phone disabled that I can’t uninstall… No fluff huh…

All of my apps are organized into folders and I am never more than one swipe and two taps away from opening the app I want. I don’t scroll, I don’t search, I know where everything is and have it opening in under a second.

  • I have used both iOS and Android for more than a decade. After every update on both systems I have to go through and delete/disable junk I don’t need/privacy issues.

The stock android pixel UI has gotten so full shit I have to use a launcher.

iOS’s UI is terrible to use with everything taking twice as long as it should. So many illogical hidden commands.

Everything has gotten randomly harder to get basic things done.

My win 10 business computer with classic shell will stop being supported the end of the year… Oh joy…

Unless you are born rich. Then you get the top level jobs because of what school you went to and who you know. On average upper level executives are a random sampling of the population in ability.

So the top paid millionaires of a multinational company employing tens of thousands can be incompetent at every level.

  • Proper thing to do is to require an integrated mixing valve on the tank itself that cannot be easily bypassed by DIY’ers or shithead landlords looking to save a buck.

I just added a mixing valve above my tank. My wife and teenager were having too many fights over showering time. 140F provides a lot longer showers.

However if I sell or rent out the place in the U.S. I have to set the tank to 120F based upon the current laws.

Look up leaf tip burn. This causesd by the plant struggling to uptake enough water.

It is normally triggered by salt buildup in the potting soil. The salt could be from either too much fertilizer, using “softener” water, or the normal buildup from evaporation.

It can also be triggered by infrequent watering, hot temps or low humidity levels. I have also seen it in plants with root damage from a fungal infection or fungus gnats.

  • Basically, make a “business argument” for the upgrades. CEO’s are generally business bros with limited practical experience. They understand sales and people pleasing/kiss assing. So the right argument is usually how it will increase sales and make their employees more productive and happier.

Unfortunately with the current equipment being 7 years old, “anything is better than the shit we currently have”. With win10 being put to pasture, your company needs to do a full replacement. So buy the cheaper ones that the CEO wants, then work on convincing him to buy the higher end ones when the cheap shit dies in the next 2-4 years.

Phrase it like "Due to the urgency of our upgrade needs and budgetary constraints, I understand why we need to buy lower quality equipment. This equipment has a life expectancy of 2-4 years. I recommend when these lower quality models need replacement we go with a higher quality model and a life expectancy of 5-7 years. This will in the long term reduce our expected cost by $xxxx/year.

The plant will adapt in time. Monsteras are tough but a bit dramatic at times.

I forgot mine outside when I lived in an area that seldom frosted. It frosted hard (22F). I thought I had lost it. It came back from one little piece of stem.

Just call it the diva it is and let it grow out of it.

With a smaller plant you definitely do not want to remove heathy leaves. In general never remove more than 10% of the leaf area at any one time. If the newer leaves are smaller then the spot you have it is definitely too dark.

And to answer your original question, “Why is plant knowledge voodoo?”.

There literally hundreds of thousands of plant species. Each of those species is adapted to different environmental conditions. The requirements the species need are further modified by its interactions with micro-orgsnisms. So the answer to most questions about growing them requires an significant depth of theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject.

A large portion of humans quickly revert to mythology when any topic becomes slightly complicated.

Please do not cut off the leaf. Removing a leaf before it is completely brown inhibits it’s growth. Plants relocate mobile nutrients from older/dying leaves to newer ones. Be patient and let the plant do its thing.

Browning in the middle of the variegation is usually due to a drastic change in light. This causes what is essentially a sunburn.

A few tricks from way to many decades growing them. They like direct morning or evening sunlight for 3-4 hours. Watering - completely saturated the pot then allow it to dry out (I water mine only once a month or two). Fertilizer - they do best with a fertilizer with a 3:1:2 NPK ratio. You can give them a bit extra K when they are putting out a new leaf.

Do not move the plant if possible. Rotating them is a great way to mess them up and get sunburn.

  • I upgraded from Windows XP to Vista after the 2nd servicepack fixed most of the shit. By that point it was a tolerable OS.

I am currently hoping for a major service pack next year to fix all the stupid shit they did in Windows 11.

You know kind of like when they fucked up windows 8, attempted a quick fix in 8.1 and finally fixed it in win10.

Of course they are at 4 major updates with win11 and it’s still shit so the hope is very thin.

  • Islam started with the rulers being the head of the church. Not as a completely separate entity adopted by the rulers like Christianity. Most of Islamic traditions in the Hadith is traced back (with very little supporting evidence) to the original founders. The Hadith was the “oral tradition” of what Mohamed said written down a century or two after his death by “scholars” who totally were not fully funded and directed in any way by the rulers.

The Hadith has everything from religious practices to economic laws. These laws amazingly create social classes of elites and everyone else. The elites control the state, military, and religion completely. The non-elites are essentially banned from any legal economic engagement other than worker for an elite. This has created extreme social inequality in most Islamic states today.
