I don’t know how lemmy.ml has it configured, but at programming.dev every admin is notified by email when a report is made 1. By our users, 2. About our users and 3. On our communities. Pinging is less “intrusive” in that sense.

Meh, it’s no different than creating a report. I get an email for every report made on programming.dev, someone pinging the admins isn’t/shouldn’t be a big deal.

I wrote a slur detection script for lemmy, copilot refused to run unless I removed the “common slurs” list from the file. There are definitely keywords or context that will shut down the service. Could even be regionally dependant.

I’m not that familiar with the community other than seeing it often on c/all, but I’m pretty curious on what your expectations were in terms of community reaction. Did no one on the team predict that that people would be angry if you did this without consulting them?

The modlog shows the conversation. The person in question seems to have a breakdown and offers to commit suicide on stream for someone who they claim want them dead.
