If the hardware still works, you can install Linux on it.
I recently installed Bodhi on an ancient Acer chromebook. It’s running great and takes up very little space on the drive.
If there are specific things wrong, like the battery or the touchpad, it might be cheap to replace just those parts. I had to replace a couple parts on the chromebook, it was pretty simple. But this model is held together with screws, not with adhesive. So your experience May vary.
