Well they haven’t seen much abuse yet. They just dodged a nice bump in inflation for a month.

It’s not just about spite or fighting. If we don’t tariff back, our firms get fucked by American tariffs, unemployment increases, our society pays for a part of those tariffs. Adding Canadian import tariffs transfers reciprocate some of this to the other side of the border, and we then can use the revenue to negate the social cost of the American tariffs. Otherwise we’d end up in part subsidizing them.
On a side note, wasn’t this the guy that Sean O’Brien praised for being pro-worker?
Replies to a challenge that he’s just looking out for his bottom line with this:
Shopify is unaffected by all this.
The Canadian small businesses that run on Shopify are the ones that are not so lucky. They are the bedrock of our economy providing 70% of all jobs. We all ought to fight for them.
I’m dumbfounded. He must think Canadians are so stupid they can’t see the contradiction in this statement.
Where’s that? I’m in the GTA.
I guess we’ll know who caved depending on whether the fucker applies tariffs for real in a month or not.
You may have too many of them. 😆
Mine is almost permanently attached to my bike. I only take it off when I need to go somewhere without my bike.
That said, I recently bought an Ortlieb pannier and I feel like it’s better quality than the Arkel I have.
On the plus side, get to contribute to getting better leaders to vote for. Democracy at the federal election ballot box isn’t enough. Too often we end up in the “least worse” or “they’re all shit” situations when there were much better people who lost by a sliver during the party leadership elections. We need to take more active role further down the chain of democracy. This is one way. I know I’ll be switching party membership in order to vote in future leadership elections. Perhaps even in the conservative one although I’m not sure I want to have that in my record. 😂
Also at the local, municipal, provincial, workplace (union) levels.
Freeland says too many austerity-adjacent things as well as makes pro capital statements for my taste.
Did you join before the deadline?
As a silver lining, I think we’ll avoid a conservative government. Mark Carney gets to look more and more like the economic crisis manager for the job, given his past experience.
Well if he does that then we’d likely have to take drastic measures that I imagine would like it or not include emergency cooperation with China. Don’t know if there’s anyone else that can absorb what we make and provide what we need as quickly as they could. I think Xi already offered help.
We should do everything to avoid any attempts to force shock therapy on us. That may be on the cards.
I’m afraid it may be worse than that. It seems like (a part of) the American capitalists that have decided that they aren’t getting enough from American and allied workers, that they don’t control enough of the power structure. They seem ready to throw away the compromise drawn with the people that prevented revolution after the Great Depression. I’m afraid the madman is just the front man of this effort and the effort will continue after he’s gone, until a breaking point when we get to play the revolution roulette again.
Damn that hurt. I’m not even sarcastic.
Do we have to hurt socialist Vermont of all things? 🥹
Today’s the day when almost everything @humanspiral wrote in a post made sense without seeming like a complete foreign agent. 😂
Something like that.
