Exactly. I’m primarily a sysadmin as well, but first of all I “dogfood” my own lemmy constantly, (i.e. I didn’t set it up just for others) and second first thing I did is onboard more admins to help.

Let’s not pickup the pitchforks based on just the ban string. However I agree that the situation where the admins are absent is very suboptimal. They need to assign some people from their instance that are active and ready to respond.

PS: The opposite would be “They deserved it”.

Most providers like hetzner and contabo already provide ddos protection. No everyone needs ddos protection anyway and the privacy issue its not certain with cloudflare either not would I argue that the costs are worth it.

There’s some people primarily on mastodon who are really the worst type of online scolds. They’ve driven scores of developers away with these antics and are then wondering why people preferred bluesky.

The instanceapplication isn’t very rigorous, so obviously it’s not impossible. We try too give some leeway since we don’t expect everyone here to be an anarchist of course, but that’s a far cry from a “neonazi” . If you come across any egregious examples just let us know.
