If you’re thinking more along the lines of a save version of the whole “how do we ensure future people know nuclear waste resides within” then you’re gonna run into the same problems they do, symbols change meaning over time. But if I had to pick something that may be obvious to most people, my vote is a scribe and a pen. Most cultures have writing, most cultures with writing save information by writing it down. There are problems, obviously, but if you gotta pick one, that’s my vote until I hear a better suggestion.

Okay, someone talk me down from the ledge here. I’m not techy, but I’ve been on Fedora for over a year, and dual booting since like 08. But the biggest hurdle back in the day for me was that my wifi was so hit or miss, even when it worked it was slow as shit. That and Netflix not working are what kept me from going full Ubuntu in like 09/10.

Am I going to have to go back to long ass Ethernet cords? Fuck, my laptop doesn’t even have an Ethernet port :(

I have a rare last name (for the US anywa), and the pronunciations I get are amazing. My favorite was Mr. Tubbo, at the bank. I’ve also gotten Tugboat. My name has no G in it.

Whenever I go somewhere where I know I’ll have to spell my name (like the bank, gov offices, et cetera) I always offer them a dollar if they can pronounce it. I’ve had to pay a dollar one time in 30 years, and that’s only because she was involved with a French company. It never really bothers me when people can’t pronounce it. What bugs me is when I tell them how to say it and they still can’t get it. It’s spelled all fucked up and French, but it’s only 2 syllables, and a very, very simple name to pronounce. But they can’t get the spelling out of their head, and fuck it up every time

When my mom was in elementary school (in the 60s) she was taught that “woman” was not a word. That “women” was the only acceptable spelling, and that it was pronounced differently depending on context, but it was always spelled with an e.

I’m running Bazzite right now, because I wanted to test it out, but normally I run Silverblue. When I first went to Linux years ago it was all Ubuntu, so I got used to GNOME and unity. Since then, I’ve never really been able to get into KDE. It feels too windowsy to me, and I fell in love with the quick keyboard controls and the smoothness on gnome. I fully get why someone might not like it, but for me it’s a near perfect fit.

That’s honestly the best thing about Linux. With windows or Mac you’re stuck with how they want things to function. I love being able to change my DE, even if I never do it

My computer isn’t good enough for gaming, but I use the steam deck for that. I’m accidently 100% Linux (well, and android, which doesn’t really count). Lol. But, man, I was nervous about making the switch to completely Linux. The only time I’d done that before was back in like 09 when I had this shitty Acer laptop that I swapped to Ubuntu because it simply would not run windows. That wasn’t a great experience, but things weren’t as polished then, plus it was the world’s worst laptop. Now I feel like I’ve upgraded to something that should cost 5 times the price. Like, it feels like I should be embarrassed by how good it is, like it was a splurge or an irresponsible financial decision. And it’s free!

Fedora. Switched to Linux full time over a year ago, after years and years and years (like… 06/07?) of dabbling. It blows my mind how polished and wonderful it is to use. It’s completely everything I need, and it always blows my mind that it’s fucking free
