Yeah, don’t ask tech people to name things. Microsoft has like 500 different things called “Razor.”
Software developer by day, insomniac by night.

Get off Google. There are alternatives, Qwant, Startpage, whatever floats your boat. I swapped to Kagi and honestly haven’t looked back.
Oh my gods, the mess that is Teams. When I first started working at my current company I was kind of excited because all of the software just works together. It felt novel, and I was enchanted by it. That quickly died when I realised that it makes finding anything a nightmare. There’s a billion different tabs and solutions for every single individual thing, and even multiple things within the same project. I think the main project I work on has like fifteen different test documents, and good luck trying to find the documentation for pushing stuff live! The only real way to find things is to ask someone who knows. There’s half a billion different search bars and finding the right one is just way too time consuming.
It’s bad because the company is bad and they should collapse, not continue on.
Yeah, forums please. I hate the idea of troubleshooting information being locked behind some stupid software we can’t easily index and search. Forums can be put on archive.org, you can literally print a page, or save it as a PDF for reviewing later. You can make use of bookmark software like Linkwarden to archive things.
Discord? Not so much. You can use third party software to scrape it and save information, but no search engine can index it. Community building is great, but I loathe having to trawl through tonnes of blithering blathering conversation BS just to figure out where to find firmware for a particular chip I have is.
Makes me want to projectile vomit all over the place, throw my computer out the window, and move to convent.
Depending on what you aim to do, Matrix works well enough. Reminds me a lot of Discord back in 2017 or so.
Jomen tekniskt sett.
Det är inte mattor vi sätter namn på nu.

Someone has drunk the koolaid. What makes you think that anything Sweeney pushes would lead to fairer competition and not just skew things in favour of Epic?
He’s not different. He’s just playing the underdog.
Doesn’t matter. He did it.
I live in a small town, there’s not a lot of people about, and I don’t really go anywhere with public transit. I still mask up daily for my walkies with my dog. I haven’t gotten sick all year, and my overall respiratory health is better.
Don’t think I’ll stop masking anytime soon. I enjoy it.
That’s the thing though, physiotherapy is proven to work, through decades of practice and research. We know how and why various exercises etc. have the effects they do based on what damage you’ve suffered.
Chiropracty was founded with the belief that misalignment of your vertebra is the sole cause of various illnesses and disease, ergo if you pop your spine correctly you’ll cure your cancer, or your asthma, or what have you. That’s obviously not true. There’s no real evidence that ciropractic manipulation actually fixes anything, but people do experience relief for a time. Then that passes and they need to return for follow up sessions.
There are also dangers involved with the practise, with people suffering serious injuries, and some even dying because of it.
I wouldn’t want someone without a proper education to mess around with my spine. It’s too important.
I rather like the wide berth people give me even though it doesn’t make much sense. Like, anyone could have Covid, but if I had it and I wear a respirator I’ll be less dangerous than someone who has it and doesn’t wear one. I get that people equate respirators with spooky but that’s just because they haven’t thought about it.
Thinking back on it, there was a single dude that spoke to me randomly. I think it might have been because of the mask but I’ve genuinely no idea, I always wear ANC headphones and ignore people. It helps my anxiety a lot.
Sadly, the people that will really appreciate you using a respirator are those you generally don’t see out and about because they can’t be, it isn’t safe for them.
I also mask. People don’t generally talk about it here, and masking wasn’t even very common back when the pandemic was taken more seriously.
Never faced any aggression but people do give you a wide berth which is kind of hilarious to me, but it doesn’t bother me at all.
Wait, they’re withholding security updates unless you pay? Hope they go bankrupt.
It’s not private given that they require your phone number to sign up.
Wow. Took them fucking long enough. They’ve been doing that with LGBTQ+ videos for ages already, so it’s not like the tech hasn’t been there. For shame.
Wow you unlocked a memory in me. I recall doing something similar but using some send command to do the same with any computer logged in and on the network.
Week after that I met a dude from municipal school IT support and that’s when I first learned about Linux. He had Red Hat on his laptop and he was happy to talk about it. Very cool dude.
People can call me a shill if they want. I was curious when I first tried Kagi, but sceptical, but now I’m really happy. It’s fun to see new features make it on there, and more than anything I love that I can make the search engine work for me instead of having to faff about trying to phrase stuff in a way where I can coax what I want out of it.
If I hate a particular website, I’ll just block it and never see it again. It’s so simple. The new “AI generated” tags on images is nice, and I hope we can see something similar for websites at some point too. Maybe flag sites that are known to use LLMs for garbage accumulation. There might already even be a blocklist for that.
