So which was the easiest?
Thanks for the tip! Others have mentioned that it’s very tricky to find one that works offline without the manufacturer’s software (website, login, data collection, etc)
Wow, very detailed! Thanks
Censorship and bias are two different issues.
Censorship is a deliberate choice by the deployment. It comes from a realistic and demonstrated need to limit the misuse of the tool. Consider all the examples of people using early LLMs to generate plans for bombs, Nazi propaganda, revenge p*rn etc. Of course, once you begin to draw that line, you have to debate where the line is, and that falls to the lawyers and publicity departments.
Bias is trickier to deal with because it comes from the bias in the training data. I remember on example where a writer found that it was impossible to get the model to generate a black doctor treating a white patient. Imagine the racist chaos that ensued when they applied an LLM to criminal sentencing.
I am curious about how bias might be deliberately introduced into a model. We have seen the brute force method (eg “answer as though Donald Trump is the greatest American,” or whatever). However, if you could really control and fine tune the values directly, then even an “open source” model could be steered. As far as I know, the values are completely dependent on the training data. But it should be theoretically possible to “nudge” those values if you could develop a way to tune it.
I’m not sure we are having the same conversation. You are talking about how Mastodon was not a good fit for you personally, maybe because of a bad server.
I’m saying that lots of people use it for all sorts of great things, and it’s an excellent option for a public health agency.
What are you talking about? It has a million active users. With an advertising budget of zero.
Too Bad it wasn’t Mastodon. They just chose a different corporate master
Is this from when Superman was fighting the KKK?
And then Superman defeated the kkk in real life?
That’s weird because I just downloaded Chrome and it has access to all of that.

I KNEW this was the mirror universe. I’m making a break for it you guys.
I wish the conversation happened before creating the community, but I don’t agree that locking a community immediately after creating it is the best way to build a resilient platform. Unless there is some kind of automatic link forwarding that I’m not aware of. I’m making assumptions about what “Redirect” means based on my knowledge.
Is this the best account to reach you by pm?
Great to see one of the classic great web apps get this kind of love and attention! Nice update. I can’t wait to test it out
Hi I’m also a religious person. Some religions have a big emphasis on what happens when we die, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Judaism basically says, “I dunno, maybe we get reincarnated or resurrected or just go be with God. Anyway, do you want any mustard or mayo on that?”
God didn’t put us here just as a test to see if we pass or fail. God didn’t put us here to ignore the brokenness in the world either. God put us here to make things better. Our job is to be the light in the darkness and to leave things better than we found them.
At least that’s what I believe. And I don’t think you have to even believe in God to live that way.
Science as we know it is not equipped to answer the Hard Problem of Consciousness. There is no explanation or path to an explanation for what we are as self aware beings, how we are conscious, how we came to be so, or why this universe exists in the first place.
Religion may not be the best answer to these questions either, but it does offer a way to live with purpose.
Tailscale is my number one app of the year. It makes everything else I do possible.
I understand this point as well. This community was created as a result of several requests in !mildlyinfuriating@lemmy.world from people who were unable to locate the alternative. I did not see !furiouslyinfuriating@sh.itjust.works suggested or promoted in that community, and I did not find it when I searched. Unfortunately we all know that the search built into Lemmy is not great.
Hopefully this new community will also raise the profile of the SJW one. I have included the link in the sidebar so that more people can find it. If this community proves unnecessary, I will happily close it and merge with the SJW one.
I appreciate the work you do in helping to keep the fediverse distributed. It is truly our greatest strength.
The standard will be similar to other Lemmy communities.
As with others, if this is applied in error, only providing a credible source will be necessary to reverse a removal.
Again, thanks for mentioning it. I replied to your alt that I wasn’t able to find it when searching, which is why it is now linked in the sidebar.
Thanks to your suggestion, anyone who finds !actually_infuriating@lemmy.world will also be able to find !furiouslyinfuriating@sh.itjust.works
I live in a hot climate, so it’s really the expense of air conditioning.
Small adjustments to the temperature based on whether or not we’re home, pre-cooling versus cooling during the heat of the day, etc. makes a big difference on the bill potentially.
I’ve seen some scenarios where people were able to save hundreds of dollars a year just by adjusting the timing of systems. The price of electricity can go up and down during the day.
Maybe those cases are outliers and it’s actually not worthwhile, but it seems compelling. If I can put a system in place for under $100, that will be at least as good as what I have and possibly a significant improvement, I’m interested in trying it.
