I’d probably identify myself as a hikikomori. I’ve had zero meaningful offline connections for more than a decade, and at this moment, I haven’t set foot outside my apartment not even once for almost a year (although there are far more serious reasons for this than just my personality). In the future, if there will be an opportunity, I’d like to move to Asia as a digital nomad working remotely. I don’t expect to make any irl connections there either, but I’d be happy to immerse myself walking around oriental slums, parks, shrines, seaside and enjoying the local cuisine.

My favorite is: if you disagree, you can always just go to another instance or even create your own. Other than that, I like how, instead of a total score, posts show likes and dislikes separately. This is more of a technical thing than a cultural one, but it has a big impact on making brigading less effective. In general, all these technical decisions make Lemmy very friendly to a variety of cultures and people from across different spectrums of political and other opinions.

Try to find a Lemmy instance that aligns with what you seek, register there, create a community. Your current one - lemmy.world - might be one of the worst choices for what you ask since it has heavy/biased moderation and a lot of moderation drama.

Imo that’s one of the lesser QoL issues. I find it more annoying that there’s no pagination other than “Next” button. Why don’t we have “Prev”, “First”, “Last” and page numbers? That’s quite basic pagination functionality.

Have a nice journey! Me using Lemmy started as “1 month popular sites alternatives challenge” which I arranged for myself after growing increasingly more annoyed by moderation at sites like Reddit and 4chan. Some other systems I started using more as a result of that are Mastodon and Bluesky.

Proton has some technical issues as well. Recently there was a day when email wasn’t working at all for hours, maybe even half a day. I’m paying for their VPN sub and using it for years and not going to move in nearby future, but if I was picking something now I would carefully consider other options. Never heard about those mentioned in thread though, if they are new I wouldn’t use them, I’d like something with good record track of at least one decade, better few decades.

When you body tells you it’s sleepy, listen, and go to bed.

If I go to nap for 10 minutes at 12:00 and then at 17:00, the next day I’m guaranteed to be sleepy both at 12:00 and 17:00. That’s how circadian rhythms adjust themselves. The only way to not be sleepy at 12:00 and 17:00 on further days is to overcome sleepiness and NOT give in.

I hate it. I already agreed to use unique unmemorizable password for every account and store them all in Bitwarden and now this is not enough? Yeah, I store my email password in Bitwarden too. With phones it’s even worse, since it’s way more probable to lose your phone than to lose your money due to database password breach. I don’t understand why those probabilities are not estimated when introducing practices like this. Also, I don’t remember the details but in the past I lost some accounts and passwords just by factory resetting the phone which had password manager app installed (probably forgot to transfer passphrases from the phone before wiping it).
