Yep, but we’ve got at least a decade to do it, and when new systems are stood up they “should” be in compliance.
Known and vetted systems are always the most secure. Until RSA is broken, and then they’ll need to update to a quantum resilient standard. Which we’ve had in the wild for 6 years already and the NIST has officially approved for 2 years.
We’re still at least a decade away from a machine with enough qbits to do it. So i feel like we should be fine.
It’s the fucking Credit Bureaus, Telecoms, and Energy Companies I worry about. They keep fucking up.

Install fresh tomato to this and you’ll get a much better AP with very good firewall and QOS and traffic inspection. Also good SNMP for monitoring

Ours was small and uneventful except one person brought us all a bunch of pizzas which was cool for those that could eat cheese, I brought a big pack of hand warmers and a big caraffe of hot mint tea. It was pretty much just a lunch. None of the state reps came out, and there was no counter protest. Fliers were handed out for another protest soon. Hopefully others are seeing the attendance numbers and planning for more better organized protests.
I handed out the EFF protesting .pdf that I had printed out at work.

Some tips to help you out
- don’t take your phones to the protest
- if you take a burner, don’t take it home. buy it, and trash it at the protest.
- don’t take anything that could identify you as you
- superglue and baking soda on your fingerprints. don’t go crazy, just enough to make printing you impossible/difficult
- write any important phone numbers on your arm or ankle in permanent marker if you can’t remember them
- stuff a couple hundred dollars for bail in your shoe
- don’t give ANYONE your real name. don’t care how hot they are or how impassioned they are, just fucking don’t
- designate one trusted individual to come get you from jail. they are not to bring their phone, they should park at least 1/4 mile away and walk to get you(long enough to realize you’re being tailed by police).
Pay attention to your surroundings, specifically the movement of officers/agents. if they’re running you should be too. if there’s a large group marching or a wall marching, leave immediately and regroup.
ICE will be there. they will be picking people up. many of them not illegal. if you’re not white, wear makeup if you can get away with it. paint your face with state colors if need be. not a mask, so it shouldn’t be covered by “no-mask” states.
Know your rights. Bring the proof of your rights. Force them to acknowledge your rights.
Stream everything.
If you are picked up you will;
- go on a list
- be unlawfully monitored
- become a link in a larger web to ensnare organizers
You will now go dark for at least a month. No social media posts about the protests, no discussions about the protests, nothing. After that, it should be difficult to pair your online activity with your real world activities.
If you can’t make it to the protests, record the streams, share them online, pressure the public to demand answers for the crimes committed by the officers/agents.
One last thing.
There will undoubtedly be people there to provoke the protests. do not let them. once one incident of violence is determined all bets off and the police will become physically involved.
Trust no one, question everything, power to the people. 🫵

It’s slurry with oil products in it, separating it into different products is what refining is. For those unfamiliar you can think of it as liquid ore and the gasoline is 18k Gold you get from rocks you dig out of a mountain. The distinction is that we’re not putting any work into what we’re pumping out of the ground and shipping it across the ocean. It’d be like if you owned a mine and shipped truckloads of dirt somewhere else for the gold to be pulled out. It’s exceedingly inefficient and wasteful.

It is modern, however if there seemed to be a positive spin to that, that’s my fault in not properly couching that term. Modern processes for me has become a negative term. I’m inherently suspicious of anything sold or marketed as modern as it tends to be a shittier version of what we already have. But that’s a topic for another time. The modern processing we could do locally would not make the gasoline, plastic, diesel, or other manufacturer distillates cleaner. It would atleast lessen the further pollution from shipping. In that it would be an “improvement”. Under no circumstances is domestic oil a net positive for anyone. I think the only ethical act is to sabotage oil infrastructure in America and make it too expensive to drill. But that also is a different topic for a different discussion.

I partially think that an impending surge in renewables is a factor in their unwillingness to add the capability here. I guess we’ll see if there is any truth to that now that we are Trumpland and renewables will probably be set back at least a decade.
On this we absolutely agree.
We don’t ship any oil, we ship an unrefined slurry, it’s not even crude as that has to be treated to become a homogeneous product. We then have other countries refine that slurry and take on all of the environmental impacts that has to their local groundwater, and then reimport those same deposits here locally. Inefficient? Absolutely. Profitable? Depends on who you ask. The transport and pumping of oil and gas deposits are subsidized by the US government so that oil companies can do this at a profit while ignoring local infrastructure.
Landman is a television show and is apparently irrelevant to the conversation as I thought that’s where you were picking up these talking points. Oil production in the US is outdated, unneeded if we want to keep gas cheap at the pump, and should only be done to fill our internal oil reserves for national defense. It’s also an infrastructure issue as there are leaking and degrading pipelines all over the US that are contaminating ground water and releasing methane into the air. Secondly since we have to ship what we pump out of the ground we then burn the fuel to transport through pipelines to tankers that then burn bunker fuel, to be refined elsewhere, further fucking the environment, to burn more bunker fuel in the tanker trip back to the US where it’s then further refined into different distillates.
It’s so much worse than crappy oil.

Email is insecure comms, it is required to be stored in plain text. Any keys or cryptographic elements you share over email are already compromised as soon as it’s emailed.
There are a multitude of encrypted ways to communicate. If you are attempting to reach people on lemmy I would suggest setting up a matrix server and element instance much like what was done on db0.
You can also get a prepaid sim, sign up for Signal and then set your username so as to obfuscate yourself as well.
Again Email is the absolute worst way to set this up.
