  • Once I replied to a meme and got 10 people replying with hateful things, downvoting my replies, nobody had my back did’nt understand why. Turned out the meme I replied to was posted in a communist instance and the anti-us sentiment wasn’t really a joke. At some point a mod blocked me from replying so I blocked the instance and never looked back. If I see a user or community from specific instances I think twice before I reply. 99% of the time I feel free to say whatever I want, so I don’t really care about the parts of lemmy where I’m not. I’ve seen plenty of passionate and caring people in the 2-3 weeks since I registered, so don’t know how you’ve missed them so far. They’re here though.

  • Even after reading this headline twice I couldn’t understand it, so here is the first few lines of the article for anyone with the same issue:

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says a plan by the United States to restore Russia’s ability to sell fertilizer is a backchannel that funds Ukrainian death and suffering.

“This is the most disturbing action that I think we’ve seen from (U.S. President Donald Trump) since his election,” Moe told legislators Tuesday.

“In essence, what he is doing is funding (Russian President) Vladimir Putin’s regime … and funding the death of Ukrainians.”

  • "On Sunday, the Gaza Health Ministry said the death toll from Israel’s 535-day assault on Gaza surpassed 50,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. …

The ministry said that more than 113,000 others have been wounded since October 2023, and at least 14,000 more Palestinians are missing and presumed dead and buried beneath the rubble of hundreds of thousands of bombed-out buildings.

However, experts—including the authors of two peer-reviewed articles in the prestigious British medical journal The Lancet—say the actual death toll is likely much higher."

Where is the international community? United Nations? They need to be stopped.

  • No matter how much I dislike Musk, I don’t think he’s giving that much choice. Erdogan is a dictator who has the power to block X altogether. A real free speech advocate would not succcumb to the pressure of a repressive government, but the article does imply Musk is not the initiator of these bans: “Musk himself said that “the choice is have Twitter throttled in its entirety or limit access to some tweets.” He said X would publicly post the Turkish government’s requests.”

Not saying we shouldn’t put Tesla’s on fire tho.
