Probably. I hated all of it and still do, so I’ve no idea what they said in the pub.

OK, so this may shock some, but my posh English school called football ‘soccer’. Football was what most people would call rugby. Cricket was… Cricket.
The lint filter, I think. I’ve never heard of cleaning it every time, though.
That and don’t forget to clean the filter! I do that every month, doesn’t take long and it keeps everything running smoothly.
Took a while, but someone did eventually notice!
That would indeed be a nice feature. I’m sure they would welcome the suggestion!
System Monitor is very much still alive, and I’m pretty sure it is updated to Qt6. I was using it only yesterday on Plasma 6…
Well, now you mention it, the motivation here may be to reduce their bandwidth costs? Probably not 2 million, but every € counts…
The worst I had was when the heating for our building failed… on Christmas Eve. No hot water or heating until January 5th because they couldn’t find the part, it was more complex than they expected, another part needed replacing etc. etc. etc. Fuck me, was it cold, and I like my flat cold! Had to got the gym every morning for a shower. At least I got a rent reduction.
Nvidia made money, but I’ve not seen OpenAI do anything useful, and they are not even profitable.
There’s a great German TV show from a few years back about a crime scene cleaner “Tatortreiniger”. It’s more philosophical/funny than gruesome and worth a watch if you don’t mind reading sub-titles. The BBC did an adaptation in English, but I’ve not watched it yet.
I did a job developing a multimedia CD that trained doctors. Well, it was more of a marketing tool. For oncology… of the face and genitals. It was easily the most harrowing experience of my career. So many genitalia and tongues with hideous growths and what have you. The people who agreed to be photographed were both brave and very, very unwell.
I was on the tech team, sonI got off quite lightly. The two graphics people spent day after day aligning and processing these photos so that everything was clearly visible. I don’t know how they slept at night.
I left after a year. I don’t think anyone managed longer than that.
The comments on Phoronix definitely took a racist turn…
I wonder what the apologists from .ml have to say…
My understanding is that it boots faster. That’s a nice thing to have on a container that spins up on demand.
OK, it was a basic pattern recognition model, nothing nearly as sophisticated as we have now, but I think it would have performed significantly faster.
I had the idea to offload machine learning to GPUs back in the early 00’s. I was working for a company doing number plate recognition back then, so I was even in a position to act on my idea… but my boss thought I was nuts.
I’m not sure how much money I would have made, but it’s got to be better than this!
That’s news to me - and a bit of a dick move.
In response to yet another thread encouraging people to get out and protest. By all means, do that. But if you really want to make an impact, vote.
