You got me curious about the origins of this. I’m pretty sure this image of Pooh and Tigger was made after the photo was taken, but it does seem to illustrate the point pretty well.

There are so many amazing games to play. If you wanted to, you could cut off all future content from this day on, and still have more than enough to remain entertained for the rest of your life.

If you can’t make each game better than the last, people will just go back to the last game. But if you take away the last game, they’ll go to the new game simply because the same game but worse is still better than nothing.

Isn’t this true for every form of media though? Books, TV shows, movies, music; there are multiple lifetimes worth of content for anyone that wants to look for it. What makes video games so special?

I don’t know, I kind of gave up trying to buy one after the first one didn’t work out. Mapillary recommends the GoPro Max (this was why I was interested), but I couldn’t tell you if it needs an app to work.

This reminds me of when I tried to buy an insta360 camera, only to learn after the fact that it requires an app to function. And that the app isn’t even compatible with all phones and tablets.

Maybe it’s buried on the store page somewhere that installing the app is a requirement, but I was pretty annoyed to learn that I had just bought a plastic brick unless I also wanted to upgrade my phone.

You’re using the past tense, but they’re very much still giving away games for free. On a related note for OP, I’m pretty sure amazon prime gives away games for free too, so if you don’t know where to start, you can always start with something that doesn’t cost you anything (extra, assuming you have prime).

The tree on the right has that block missing in its shadow, the trees on the left are casting their shadows in a slightly different direction, and they guy on the dirt path’s shadow seems too dark and clear. Once you pointed out something was wrong, it’s hard not to see other mistakes.

Considering what the original seal looks like, it’s obvious they’ve made some changes to simplify the design. But I wouldn’t jump to AI, especially since the fabric it’s printed on is distorted.

They might be the most common because they’re the easiest, but there are also still plenty of people actually paying for the games. I’ll never be convinced that piracy is an actual threat to making money. Piracy has never been easier, just see /c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com for proof, and yet pretty much all forms of entertainmment are as profitable as ever.
