Considering I’ve never used TikTok or joined it, I was diagnosed in 2022 (or so, I don’t remember), after almost 40 years of life. So much of my past, pre- and post-internet era, started to make sense when I learned that ADHD has an inattentive side that lacks the hyperactivity.
It’s not that the diagnosis of and has exploded due to “X cause,” but like autism, we have increased identification for them or categorize behaviors differently.
Using Lemmy requires some modicum of understanding in technology. Most conservatives I’ve encountered tend to be technology-ignorant at best, and technophobic at worst. You don’t see as many differing political views on Lemmy cause some/most conservatives are too inept at technology or can’t be bothered to figure it out.
Reddit was just easier to get into, and as much as I personally like Lemmy, it’s a hard sell to some from the outset. If the signup could be simplified (which I understand federation and why it can’t be that easy), we could see an influx of more outdated viewpoints on the platform.
I also agree with others who have stated that most “conservative” philosophy involves denying rights to those who have only recently (last 50 years or so) been afforded rights equal to their own. I’m also growing increasingly suspicious of how much lead was actually used in the products consumed by boomers and some Gen-x before its use was known and most of it banned or removed from products. It seems too many in their late 40+ are going from normal human being with empathy towards others to RAGING MAGA CONSPIRACIST, seemingly overnight.
Ditto and likewise. Here’s to hoping we both find something that soothe the internalized rage we collectively feel toward a system that was never made for us.
Sorry for the late reply. With the holidays and life, in general, I just didn’t find the time to get on the site, instead of the phone app, to write this up and I struggle to type via digital keyboards.
When I say silent quitting life, I assume the reader knows the term silent quitting a job from the past pandemic era (at least that’s when I learned of it) where a worker who may have been gung-ho on their job in addition to innovating and advancing parts of it; who may have stayed late, working on tasks, or came in early without additional pay; are now doing just the minimum to keep their job. Silent quitting, as far as I know, is doing only what is required and nothing more, refusing to work extra for no pay, etc.
So applying silent quitting a job to silent quitting life, is where I used to seek to improve myself and my immediate surroundings, I do the bare minimum to survive and keep the boat afloat, so to speak. I have lost interests in most hobbies, most interests, and rarely step outside of a daily routine of work, spending time with my wife/kid, and going to bed to repeat the same shit the next day. I just don’t see the point in continuing this system we currently exist in and hope, against all odds, that something drastic changes soon to make life worth living, again. It isn’t fair to my son or my wife.
I used to hear about famous/wealthy people offing themselves when they have a life, money, a spouse, and children. It didn’t make sense to me back then. I didn’t understand how someone, who seemed to have everything someone might want, would see no point in continuing their life. I get it now and it scares me what the next, second 4(+) year term of a tRump administration will do to my mental health.
I’ve since learned that this might be Passive SI. I don’t know what the future holds for myself or my family, but I don’t plan to do anything to harm myself. I just feel bad for my son. He was born into this world and since his birth (Dec. 2019), things have only seemed to become more glum. I have been seeing a therapist, been on anti-depressants/-anxiety meds, and tried to find anything to give myself a reason to go on, knowing this world was made for the 1% at the expense of the 99%, but it’s hard. So far, it’s just led to my wife and I going day-by-day. It’s not what I’d call living; it’s just surviving right now.
I know I am. I’m so sick of this system they’ve created and perpetuated for decades/centuries. I just want to live my fucking life without worrying about basic needs, or how someone with most can take even more from those who have little. Americans have more guns per capita than almost anywhere else. Those are guns in the hands of the people, not mercs or armies or private security. They should be afraid of us. They should be checking their car’s undercarriage daily before getting in. They should vary their routes daily to avoid patterns. They should see every person on the street as a potential assassin. Only THEN, will anything about these parasites’ attitudes change.
Unfortunately, so many with the skills to engage in revolution are aligned with the interests of these corporate leeches, and thus are fighting the masses, instead of standing with them. They wanted a Civil War #2, it’s time to kick up, not down!

The thing that baffled me about that movie was how many “startups” used it as reference for what they were trying to create. Like, did I watch the same movie? Real life was so shitty they had entire blocks of people living in trailers mounted to each other vertically. They used the matrix or whatever it was called to escape. And you want to create that for real?
Why don’t we turn the world into a real life Mad Max while we’re at it.

The source code for keyshare.link is out there and it does exactly what you talk about, but using reddit user access. Maybe someone could work within the license to code a similar tool for Lemmy users.
If it’s anything like ChatGPT, it’ll probably try to gaslight itself into thinking something that never existed, exists and can do the exact thing you’re trying to do!

I’ve been saying this for years to people, but it won’t happen, sadly, if history is anything to go on. The average consumer will always take the easiest path to convenience, even foregoing their leverage as a consumer, if given the choice for a simple monetary resolution.
If the average consumer had the fortitude to resist getting something they wanted now for better pricing/functionality, a lot of these businesses wouldn’t be doing the bullshit they have been doing with price hikes and enshittification. We are simply not a society that can live without these conveniences.
Those that try to “vote with their wallet” (econ 101, baby) know the power the consumer has if principled enough to give up convenience for leverage. Unfortunately, as long as someone can throw money at a problem and call it fixed, it will be difficult to pressure companies to do anything to improve their product. I’d love to be proven wrong.
Hell, maybe one silver lining of the impending tariff disaster is the consumer will be unable to afford it as stuff we need gets too expensive for the stuff we want.
It’s not about whether the tracking number is legit but whether that tracking number has anything to do with someone’s actual address or a package being sent to them. The status of the tracking number, if legit, should be enough to verify the contents of the original message. In my experience, when the address has been wrong, or input incorrectly, I’ll see some sort of message about difficulty with the address and how it set the address to something or requested information.
Then no reason to even question the validity of the original message.
They give you the package info. Just ignore their email and input that into the USPS address manually. Kind of like the FedEx and UPS scams. You don’t have to use their link to “check the status” of something. Go to the real site, enter number, see fake, ignore!
For the work passwords I have to remember and cannot always access a password manager, I use pass phrases instead. Statistically, 3 random, non-similar words, are more secure than normal passwords. Changing random letters to symbols and capitalizing can further improve the security. For instance…
