I definitely didn’t intend to imply or accuse you of being astroturfey or anything else for that matter and I’m truly sorry it came off that way. It seems I should be much more careful in my wording. I did a bad job of paraphrasing something I heard about how the original Reddit accounts and lack of traditional organizers are a bit suspicious.

At the end of the day I think we’re all scared and trying to navigate a complex media ecosystem and it’s easy to make mistakes.

I genuinely have heard concerns from friends and was trying to check their veracity. It seems from what I’ve heard here that they are bogus and I’m grateful to the commenters who have pointed that out.

I added an edit to my original comment to try to make this clearer to anyone else who’s been fed the same misinformation as me and I’ll definitely share that with my community.

I’m just echoing some suspicions I’ve heard from more knowledgeable friends and was asking, I don’t really know enough detail to have any opinion myself; sorry if it’s a silly question.

I’ve just heard that organizers coming out of it/ the Reddit accounts that originally elevated it seemed astroturfeyand there’s concern there, and I’ve seen some more paranoid ideas thrown around about it but idk

I’ve heard from some of my more active friends that none of the usual leaders or orgs they know of were a part of founding this and there’s some suspicion it was created by right wingers to collect data; can anyone speak to this?

Edit: It seems that this claim is likely being made (either maliciously or like in this case just stupidly :P) to suppress protest turnout.

That does make sense (to me at least), now that I’m paying attention I feel like I can focus on individual instruments or vocals and I am still aware of the others in the background but they’re less prevalent. I also have ADHD, not sure about any correlations there

Interesting, I’m not sure if I can hear exactly… it’s very different from a spoken voice. I can sort of play music in my head though if I have a song I want to hear but I’m not sure if it’s “hearing it” or just a kind of ephemeral knowing how it goes.

Oh absolutely, it’s such a good one. You put it perfectly, one of my favorite things was listening to it while driving these twisty country roads near my grandparents house when I was younger ( a little faster than I should :P )

Sometimes creative people just want to make good art and in largely religious societies they can make their art more relatable or consumable by incorporating that religion

Some absolutely beautiful things have been made in the name of religion, but underneath that I believe you see the beauty and creativity that the human spirit is capable of shine through, and those amazing people deserve credit much more than an invisible sky man or hierarchical power structure for supposedly inspiring it

Agree, it feels like everyone wants it to be less toxic than Reddit but I’m not sure it actually is. There are just as many mods out of control, wild politics, trolls etc. here than there, and just because it’s a smaller community and easier to stick to your instance/ block others doesn’t mean it’s better. I certainly have more communities, servers, and individuals blocked on lemmy than I ever did on Reddit

There’s more to life than just wanting more money or time to consume the content and products of others (obviously with the major caveat that we need some amount of money to live)

Most people gain existential joy from making some form of impact on the world, and for many that comes in the form of their work.

Being able to look at something, whether it’s a building you helped build, a website you made, or a contract that you helped get signed and having the knowledge that it wouldn’t exist in the way it does without your effort is a feeling I think is critical for most people to be happy.

Obviously this fulfillment doesn’t have to come from work, and if you can find enough satisfaction in writing poetry or a hobby like that to fill that need then you’re lucky for it, and maybe can look into pursuing a career in that.

I personally have unfortunately never been able to feel like I’m making enough of a mark on this world with my hobbies alone and have pursued work that makes me feel like I’m contributing to society or improving myself

This. Seeing one person who you helped smile makes you happy, even if it may not solve all the worlds problems. Volunteering has always brought me much more joy and helped me deal with existential dread better than ignoring the news or any other change I can make

Also it’s not like Chinese vehicles are banned, the Volvo EX30 is starting sales soon at 35000$, which is extremely cost competitive with current options in the US market despite being affected by the tariffs and not benefiting from US subsidies.
