It’s just a word at the end of the day. To me “main” is literally a shorter word that means the same thing in my brain. It could be “trunk” or “release” or whatever else you’d like. “master” makes some people uneasy, so it seems like a simple solution to pick a different word.
The development community talked, informally settled on main, and here we are. Anecdotally it took me more time to write this than to switch most of my projects over. I use GitHub actions and a simple find/replace for a word not otherwise commonly used was the ticket.
I really don’t care what other people use at the end of the day. Discussing version control and branching strategies drains my life away. If it is difficult to switch, don’t, but if you start a new repo it is worth thinking about for a moment.
Main is more concise and less problematic. A win all around.
The thought often crosses my mind, but it is far too difficult.
I’m smack dab in the middle of the US and I don’t want to be part of it, currently.

The cumulative price increases are noticeable. Grocery receipts feel like they are $25-50 more expensive for the same stuff.
We buy a dozen eggs every other week, so that specifically isn’t impacting us much, but in the store I usually take note, and say damn under my breath when I see the $7+ ones.
I’m no greek scholar, but I don’t believe navigating a system of middle-man bean counters was what they had in mind.
Well for this particular meeting, I think young white males are the target demographic.
The cost is a function of running an LLM at scale. You can run small models on consumer hardware, but the real contenders are using massive amounts of memory and compute on GPU arrays (plus electricity and water for cooling).
ChatGPT is reportedly losing money on their $200/mo pro subscription plan.
Long time Plex user here, thanks for the tip! I get overwhelmed by the available choices and a full rewatch takes so long. Definitely setting this up
WTF did I just read?
I should have stopped when they announced they were a highschool student.
They didn’t reveal the actual identity of anyone. They did use cloudflare to approximate a target’s location, and made it slightly fancier by forcing the client to make the request with a push notification.
Companies have used similar approaches for decades. Almost every web interaction with a marketer approximates your location and ties that together with demographics via browser fingerprinting to get a good idea of who you are.
At my Walgreens there are usually some people in the pharmacy, one person on the registers and maybe one person in cosmetics. I’m not bugging the only cashier to unlock toothpaste that costs double what it does anywhere else.
virtue - behavior showing high moral standards.
Wouldn’t want to signal that.
You would probably be able to run it. It will run like crap, but it will likely start. Postgres can run on as little as 8mb of ram, but not well. I’d recommend a box with at least 2gb of ram if you want to spin up multiple containers.
sqlite would probably be a better choice on an aging pi, but I’m sure you have your reasons.
This is inspirational stuff. I am going to clean my Encore tomorrow when I make my morning cup.
Are the bright colors giving you impure thoughts?
I agree, people need to be able to focus on something else for a few hours on a Sunday.
