I think that’s just a Lemmy-UI bug. Try a different frontend and block from there. The blocks are API based, so when you switch back to your main/preferred UI, the block should be there.

Loops doesn’t provide the embed video data, so all Lemmy gets is a thumbnail image. Unless something’s changed in the last few weeks, only Tesseract has Loops support, and the way I had to make that work is a bit of a hack (though it works quite well).

I wrote that in a long time ago, and it’s made discoverability much better. It won’t show this if you’re not logged in, but it does indicate if you’re already subscribed to a community, and you can also one-click subscribe to the remote communities your browsing. All without the copy, paste, search, “federating…”, wait, click again, refresh song and dance.

Each post/comment also has a button to browse the communities of the home instance associated with it.

Use the type_ parameter when calling /api/v3/post/list:

Local: /api/v3/post/list?type_=Local

Subscribed /api/v3/post/list?type_=Subscribed

Local will work without auth, but you will need to pass the auth token for “Subscribed”. Without auth, “Subscribed” is the same as “All”.

For months now, I’ve been thinking of setting up a PeerTube instance alongside my Lemmy one but haven’t gotten around to it. If I ever do, you’re welcome there and I’ll guarantee you at least a week to export your stuff if I ever shut it down.

Mostly normal-ish stuff. They just go way overboard on “don’t track/profile me” to an obscenely obnoxious degree.

If you go to https://lemmy.world/c/comicstrips and click on half of the usernames that have posted there, you’ll get an error because it’s that person creating a massive number of burner accounts, making a post, and deleting the account.

For the AskLemmy/No Stupid Questions/and other communities, I can’t say with 100% certainty it’s the same person, but the profile fits.

It’s somewhat normalized to use a secondary account if you wanna ask something dumb and not have it associated with your main account, but most people don’t delete the account immediately afterward and check in with a new alt soon after, so I’m wanting to say it’s the same person.

There’s several different burner account trolls:

1. A long-tern persistent actual troll. Code name: “that guy”. They pop up every so often and spew a bunch of racist garbage. They act like they’re Professor Chaos, but we just ban them and move on with our day.
2. A medium-term persistent troll. Code name: AntiYanks. They’re not as racist as “that guy” but pretty much only exist to stir up drama and derail things. Again, ban and move on.
3. There’s a tinfoil nutjob who creates disposable accounts every 2-3 hours, makes their posts/comments, and deletes the account. They’re mostly benign, but abusing the platform and causing a lot of useless junk accounts to accumulate fediverse wide. They tend to be most active in Comic Strips, Memes, No Stupid Questions, and Ask Lemmy, though they’re not exclusive to those communities.

I posted here back in August about a 30 day dumbphone challenge. I’m still using that flip phone, though I’ve un-dumbed it since then. Still, it’s just inconvenient enough that I don’t make habit of endlessly scrolling.

You’ve basically just described the daily life of the people in my (small) hometown lol. So glad to be out of that place.

In some people’s limited defense, lol, Facebook does that automatically. Or, it’ll at least bring those up in your own feed (or something like that; my FB knowledge is secondhand since 2009).

My friend will send me random pictures from college that came up on her FB page’s “On this day…”.

Not sure if those are visible to everyone or just her, but the platform itself does throw out 'member-berries.
