Maybe you will should’ve picked a more marketable slogan than the one that makes it sound like you wanna just let criminals win. There’s a difference between a fascist and a gutless politician. Trump is the former, Biden is the latter. What leftists need is the ability to recognize shades of grey and the notion of getting somewhere step by step instead of trying to convince people to leap all the way down the stairs.
When Democrats lose, there’s endless navel-gazing and wondering what went wrong. If there was enough minority outreach, if there was enough non-minority outreach, what policies should’ve been passed or left on the cutting room floor.
When Republicans lose, they simply don’t give a fuck. No one on the right was asking after Trump’s loss in 2020 whether it was a mistake to let him run again or if he should’ve done an interview with Charlamagne the God. They just doubled down on Trump.
The point isn’t to say Democrats should be more like Republicans. Republicans are a loony cult, no one should be like them. The point is that there is an extreme and insane double standard, and anyone who acts like Democrats are the ones who need to be harsher on their candidates is hard to take seriously.
shutting out a significant portion of your community without seeking their input first isn’t a sensible move for such a foundational open source project.
Ironic when X shuts out anyone who isn’t logged in and shuts out anyone who doesn’t pay for a blue checkmark from having visible replies.
Having an X account isn’t consequence-free - if it becomes where updates occur, people have to sign up for an account and subject themselves to nazis everywhere and all manner of crypto spam just to see updates. And they have to pay Elon tribute to be heard in response. It’s crazy that anyone sees it as being friendly to users.
This idea originated as a Stephen Colbert joke in 2010. As always I’m sure some will call this some sort of self-aware troll by Trump, but what are the odds of that.

We completely changed how the algorithm worked, pushing pro-Trump and right-wing posts to the top of people’s feeds.
I thought this was common knowledge. Users have been talking about how everyone is getting flooded with right-wing posts on r/twitter ever since Elon took over.
But it’s less unsuitable than any alternative avenue for contentious information (traditional news media, youtube/podcasts, social media, etc) - for the simple reason that wikipedia encourages citing sources, while every other platform discourages it.
I think he’s sugar-coating it because their bonds are about to go up for sale. From the article:
While equity investors have reportedly slashed the value of their stakes by as much as 78 percent, the Journal reports, “banks hope to sell senior debt at 90-95 cents on the dollar, while retaining more-junior holdings.”
If they were breaking even, the bonds wouldn’t be getting sold at a loss. Keep in mind, the bond holders get paid before the stock holding investors, so if they’re taking a loss, the equity investors are getting nothing (hence the 78 percent cut, basically their share is only worth the odds of a miraculous turnaround). That doesn’t happen with a company unless it’s losing money.

Perhaps before the 2022 invasion. You can see for example the first round of the last presidential election results here - the light blue supported the pro-Russia candidate Yuriy Boyko, who didn’t advocate being part of Russia but instead wanted better relations with Russia. After the invasion, Boyko himself apparently became part of a new party of ex-pro-russian candidates who now support Ukraine against Russia.
Generally it’s hard to say how many fit into the category of “wanted an independent Ukraine but that is still close to Russia”, but my sense is that it was a pretty large part of the blue group. Consider for example the average American liberal who wants the US to be more like Canada - probably there are some who would rather have their part of the country become part of Canada, but it’s probably not most and certainly nowhere near all. Additionally, it’s likely that many who actually did want to live in Russia changed their mind after the atrocities of the invasion.
The ol’ Ellen Pao
Yes. People still lend Adam Neumann money, despite his record of epic failure. When you have the skills that get other people to pay the bills, failure is not a problem.
He was a first mover on podcasts, and already being a reality TV celebrity he got a lot of big guests early on.
This article goes into some details that I’ll just recklessly post a big section of here:
Then, after he won the election, Biden committed to the cause like no other president had in modern times. He appointed one of the movement’s brightest and most aggressive reformers, Lina Khan, to run the FTC, as well as other fierce critics of corporate concentration in key posts, including Jonathan Kanter, who took over the antitrust division of the DOJ, and Tim Wu, who became a key economic adviser inside the White House. Six months after taking office, Biden issued a whole-of-government executive order that called on 17 different government agencies to take 72 actions to foster competition and protect consumers against monopolies. As a result, agencies like the FTC, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Food and Drug Administration have cracked down on public scourges like price gouging, noncompete contracts, and banking-related junk fees, and created new rules to make consolidated industries like the hearing aid market more competitive.
Under Kanter and Khan, the DOJ and FTC have also filed far more ambitious antitrust investigations than any administration in decades. Last summer, an investigation into several food production conglomerates over wage suppression and collusion resulted in an $85 million settlement, one of several successful DOJ investigations into no-poach and wage-fixing schemes across the economy. In December, the FTC successfully blocked the medical data firm IQVIA’s attempt to monopolize the business of advertising to doctors through the purchase of an ad tech company called DeepIntent. And in January, a judge sided with the DOJ in its suit against a JetBlue-Spirit merger, the first successful prosecution of an airline merger in 40 years.
The effect of a more aggressive posture from regulators goes beyond favorable court rulings: Under the threat of litigation, Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Berkshire Hathaway, and the chipmaker Nvidia were some of the companies to back off multibillion-dollar acquisitions of smaller firms. Biden’s regulators filed a record 50 antitrust enforcement actions last year, and mergers dropped to a 10-year low.
These actions don’t get media attention because the media treats the government like some reality TV bullshit
I’m sorry, but fuck free speech as so many people are raving about. Its the worst thing that has happened to the world since the Internet came on.
I think the mistake isn’t free speech but not having enough exceptions for fraudulent statements. For example, if you say anything false and damaging about a specific person, everyone agrees that’s libel and not “free speech”. But if you say something false and damaging about a group of people, like trans people or immigrants, that’s “free speech” and perfectly legal. Or if you say something false and damaging about fake cures, etc.
It’s actually a tough problem because we can’t expect everyone to just be perfectly right all the time. But I think that for people like Rogan who have a wide platform, there should be some liability for lying about things that actually harm others. The fact that this is effectively legal is why psychopaths are dominating media narratives right now.
How did you know they were acid burns as opposed to the many other things that could burn someone?
I’m all for satire, but I also think this was kind of bullying in that they did something that was offensive specifically to a particular marginalized minority group.
So it’s not something that should be illegal or warrant a shooting, but I’m not exactly surprised. Just as if they published a story like “Fuck this one guy’s mother” showing a drawing of some random guy’s mother being fucked.* That guy doesn’t then have a right to shoot them and should go straight to prison if he does - but I wouldn’t be surprised and I don’t think we all need to identify with the paper or anything because they were being total pricks.
*And I know the response will be along the lines of “You can’t compare that drawing with a mere drawing of mohammed”. But that betrays a failure to take another perspective. Who’s to say that in a society even more liberal than our own, “fuck your mother” might be seen as not particularly insulting? After all, take away expectations of women being pure and you basically have “fuck your dad” which really doesn’t seem too insulting, it’s like sure if that’s what you’re into weirdo, but let me check with my dad first.
Obviously it’s easy to assume that because China has the most people, Chinese must be the most common language. But when you look at total people who know a language (as first, second, etc.) the most spoken language in the world is…English, with about 400 million more speakers than Chinese.
