Mafia stuff always aggressively puts me off, I have no taste for it at all and find no enjoyment in it. I never watched The Sopranos, and despite being a huge movie geek in general I’ve never managed to stay awake during any Godfather movie.

Maybe I was “bumped off” in a past life or something.

I’ve never seen or read Game of Thrones either, despite also being a big fantasy fan. I just never got around to it when it was popular, and after hearing how it collapsed in upon itself at the end I don’t feel the need to.

How did learning English from a show known for inventing fictional alien slang words go? Were you dropping “frell” and “yotz” into conversations?

I wasn’t a fan, but my shitty and abusive ex loved it.

I didn’t watch the show Firefly. I had already been using this screenname for a long time when that show came out, but people began to assume I was a fan and named myself after it.

While I’m generally a scifi fan and watched tons of scifi TV in those days, the Buffy shows a lot of my friends were into bored the hell out of me and I didn’t feel like checking out another show by the same guy.

I do have the DVDs on my shelf, having picked them up cheap secondhand ages ago thinking I might just get it over with someday, but the more I’ve learned about Joss Whedon over the years the less inclined I find myself to check it out.

Just a reminder for anyone concerned about potential FSF involvement that Free Software Foundation Europe has no ties to FSF or Stallman.

In around 2005 or so I went back to look at a Usenet newsgroup which had been a major part of my online life in the 1990s. All the people had gone, but the spambots were still there and the entire group was just bot spam posted at nobody and read by no one. The bots were even replying to one another’s threads. A forum where multiple IRL human friendships had been forged over the years was nothing more than grifting robots spamming at each other.

It’s fully 20 years later and the same shit is going down with a new coat of paint.

My family’s home was robbed multiple times when I was a kid. It was not a good feeling. I lost bikes, my first computer, and my general sense of security. There was a drug den around the corner, and homes all over the neighborhood were getting hit by people who were living there.

It was probably one of the factors that led to my lifelong lack of interest in trying recreational drugs.

A lot of us 80s kids got served this stuff by our parents or grandparents who were still under the misapprehension that it was okay to do that.
