That’s a tough one. While I do think AI can be fun to play around with (though I personally prefer the ones I can run locally), there’s always a sort of “monkey’s paw” element to it. Text generation? Hallucinations. Image generation? All sorts of weird artifacts, and are heavily influenced by the training data (yes of course they all are, but what I mean is, if you pick a model that is heavily inspired by NSFW content for example, then you’re very likely to get NSFW content - sounds “common sense”, but nonetheless).

So I suppose in a world where it’s “perfect” then I’d want it to make some form of media that can make everyone happy. If everyone on the planet were happy, then it’d be a much better place.

Or if we’re talking less altruistic desires, probably a continuation of some TV series that I enjoyed which ended on a cliffhanger.

Hmm, I always have a hard time picking favorites, but I’ve always enjoyed Halestorm! Pretty sure “can u see me in the dark?” has been pinned in the number one spot of my On Repeat playlist on Spotify for a couple of months now… Lzzy’s vocals are fantastic in it!

Also, a couple of years ago Alex Reade joined Make Them Suffer, and I’ve been enjoying their latest album (also called Make Them Suffer), a few of the tracks from that album (Epitaph, Oscillator, Weaponized, and Small Town Syndrome) have also coincidentally been stuck in my On Repeat playlist for a while.

I’m not sure if this counts because it wasn’t intentional on my part, but… When I was a kid, my mom had a digital camera. The lense on it would extend when it was powered on, and then retract when it was powered off.

At some point the lense got stuck, which caused the camera to not turn on properly and made it useless so she ended up getting a new one. I had gone to take the old/broken one to mess around with it and accidentally dropped it.

Apparently the angle that it fell at was just enough to “lodge” the lense back into place yet the fall wasn’t high enough to cause it to shatter or break. It worked perfectly after that, and while my parents were a bit upset they needlessly bought a new camera, they ended up letting me keep the old one.

(Later on I figured that was their way of justifying not returning the new camera that probably had nice new features or something)

I also vaguely remembering them saying something along the lines of “That’s probably the only time in your life dropping a piece of equipment will actually fix it and was just luck - don’t go trying that on other things randomly”.

Well, before today it wasn’t so great. However, payday was today, and I’ve got some time off work for about four days, and my birthday falls within the next few days as well!

So hopefully I’m past the lowest point of the week and it only goes up from here.

They had another redesign this year too as well, to try to make it more “discord-y” that’s currently in beta I believe.

Though I do think they’re a little too late…

Can confirm, I can use Boost for Reddit on my main account which is a moderator for a sub, but my second account which has no moderation abilities “breaks” the app until I switch back.

Isn’t hardware acceleration for GPUs?

Not necessarily, in this case they’re referring to Intel’s QuickSync (Video) - or QSV for short, which is Intel’s way of doing video encoding/decoding on dedicated hardware in the CPU. On the AMD side, there is Video Core Next although I’m not very well versed with the video encode/decode side of things so I’m not sure how it stacks up with QSV.

Ah, I thought this was in regards to AFK tracking when discord isn’t focused (which this plugin still won’t fix due to the mentioned Wayland restrictions) - I didn’t realize that it still didn’t work even when discord was focused, which is strange.

I’ve been using Vesktop since screen share wasn’t working on Wayland, and it already seems to do what this plugin does hence my confusion.

I’m not sure if this is actually possible - as far as I know, applications can’t track key presses/mouse movement when their associated window isn’t in focus. It’d be great if they just gave the option to disable the AFK detection since it doesn’t work…

Primarily I use Arch on my desktop (and by proxy, my Steam Deck which runs SteamOS), which is what I’ve landed on after a ton of distro hopping. The idea of Atomic distros catches my eyes, but for me in its present state there are too many steps needed in order to make deeper changes (for example, installing a kernel module) - but I quite like SteamOS on my Deck since I know it will always be in a “consistent” state, for example.

On servers I run a mix of Rocky Linux and Debian.

How about Thunderbolt? This looks like macOS, and while I’m not 100% sure if they utilize HDMI ports anymore, they certainly use Thunderbolt.

I know the feeling, I just had a week off and returned to work on Friday a couple of days ago.

That is awful, Celiac’s (and really any autoimmune disease) is no joke. I see a lot of parallels reflected in their post and I truly hate that for them so much - constantly struggling to find foods that you can tolerate, having numerous surgeries, seeing a million different doctors, being in and out of the hospital all the time to the point that its a second home, lab test after lab test that only result in more questions than answers, symptoms and other issues spiraling up due to complications of going through the condition - you name it.

I feel for them, every day feels like you’ve got the curse of Sisyphus. I feel like there has to be a solution for people like them and I, and its unfortunate that there is just so much about the body and its various systems that we don’t understand. I constantly struggle with the idea that we’ve come so far with the sciences, and yet it feels like in matters of human physiology like the GI, immune, and nervous system we’ve barely scratched the surface.

Oh… oh no… Damn it, I will never sit in an office chair the same ever again without thinking about this.

I’ve had health issues since I was a kid (all stemming from developing Crohn’s Disease symptoms before I was even a teenager), and a lot of them still haven’t been resolved (in part of reasons such as developing new conditions due to medications I took to treat another condition). One of the worst things I fear is that if I randomly end up leaving this world in a way that incurs an autopsy, the results will end with something like “Damn, this man had issues. If his doctors had known about X then he could’ve lived a much better life, the treatment is simple”.

I go through so much, and I’ve done countless research to try to track down possibilities that my doctors hadn’t considered (some of my research has in fact lead to me finding out new things that my doctors didn’t account for, even as of this year) - and I always have this terrifying doubt of “What if I had just chosen a different doctor, the next one on the list might’ve had this idea years ago and prevented some of this”. That line of thinking of “Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve” doesn’t help of course (as my friend likes to tell me “What if the sky were green?”) but that doesn’t stop me from thinking about it more often than I’d like to.

Oh wow, I didn’t expect another release so quickly! Props to the COSMIC team! I can’t recall where the roadmap for the features and their targeted releases went, but I hope we can get Night Light/Blue Light filtering soon.

It depends on who you’re referring to as a casual user. My mother for example would certainly have a hard time with it, then figuring out the key to bring up the boot menu (and being faced with a scary dialog that they’ve never seen), then selecting the right device, then likely being faced with GRUB which would also look scary to her, and by then she’d be overwhelmed before even getting to the install portion.
