I wasn’t well received when I spoke English (sadly with a North American accent) and I wasn’t received any better when I switched to French with a French accent 🙂

This is such a Quebec experience, lol.

Montreal is a lot more Anglo-friendly these days, but there is still friction with the rest of the local communities from the surrounding cities/towns because a lot of the newer people moving to Montreal don’t really try to learn French. When I spoke French there (with an Ontario accent) they were surprisingly appreciative of it.

Quebec City I had the same experience as you though. The Belgium comparison is apt.

I’m sorry, I thought you were Canadian! Truly, no disrespect intended, apologies if it came across that way. Not many people know about the referendum (either of them) outside of the country, but the France being obsessed with their former colony makes sense lol.

I was just mostly curious as to what the Franco vs Anglo Canadian landscape was before I was born, I have always known the somewhat bilingual landscape we live in now.

1. How old are you? I was born in Canada right around the 2nd Quebec referendum and I have always heard the politicians at both the Federal and Provincial levels speak in English and French whenever I tune into the news.

2. It’s Trudeau*, we’ve already had one in the 80s…

No, we shouldn’t just dismiss this. My friend is a teacher in Arizona and she had some sort of agents come to their school and pull kids out of classes. Allegedly they were going to use them as “bait” to get the parents, but the school was being tight lipped about it when the teachers were asking questions.

Dismissing this shit the first time around is how so many children’s whereabouts are still lost in the ICE system today. Don’t dismiss this as just conjecture just because the news isn’t reporting it.

What an interesting way to describe the technocratic class that is aligning themselves with Trump. Are you up for a promotion at a FAANG, maybe? For recently rolling back some DEI policies perhaps?

For normal Tiktok creators, I’m not sure. But from what I remember, our TikTok revenue (combined creator fund payout + donations) outperformed every other source of revenue on a month-to-month basis EXCEPT the large local fundraising drives (which we only had quarterly).

The secret hack to the internet has always been animal content, lol. Animal videos performed very well, especially if you got into the creator fund. Youtube shorts only performed well for us when we had long form content the short could lead into. Before then we had 0 visibility on the YT algo.

Finally, Tiktok has better integration different payment methods through fundraising platforms (GoFundMe, Kickstarter, etc) than Youtube (or any Meta app tbh), or at least from what I understood from our accountants (I never bought anything off of Tiktok).

Again, this is only from my experience, and some other small animal rescues that we worked with. That’s why I express sympathy for these organizations. I don’t really care what happens to the drop shipping influencers or whatever.
