ProtonMail works great, and ProtonDrive functions well on both the web and Android. However, keep in mind that upload speeds are slow, at around 4 MB/s, and there is no ‘export all’ function. The photo backup feature in the Android app works fine for me. As far as I know, the non-profit that owns the majority of the company has three owners. One of them is Andy the CEO. I don’t know the political views of the others. The ProtonDrive UI feels sluggish because the decryption process. But all in all, I am satisfied.

On desktop, DAITA works on all tunnels. It multihops with the server that supports it as the entry and the server you select as the exit.

The Vivaldi source code is source-available, so you can view it, but the license is much more restrictive than an open-source one

Mullvad Browser is a good one; it’s a partnership between Mullvad and the Tor Project.

Crypt.ee looks like a solid option to replace proton drive and docs(only for solo use) if you don’t mind their UI/UX. It also gives me confidence in them when I read their FAQ/Privacy policy and listen to the podcasts episodes the CEO has been intertwined in.

If you’re on mac or windows i think the storage part is fine. But otherwise yes. In my opinion proton is the best alternative if you don’t want to selfhost.

If you don’t want to self-host, consider Proton Drive, ente.io, or crypt.ee.

I use Proton Drive; it’s not perfect, but Proton has been around for 10 years. ente.io seems promising, but they haven’t been around for long enough. crypt.ee seems fine, but it has the same problem as ente.io, and I don’t like their interface(Edit: crypt.ee has been around for 8 year’s).

If none of the above options suit you, maybe try sync.com; they claim to encrypt all their files with end-to-end encryption.

Filen.io’s offer of cheap lifetime plans on Black Friday this raises a red flag for me, as lifetime plans are not a sustainable business model.

Both proton, ente.io and crypt.ee have been on podcasts I would listen to those before deciding what to go with.
