I would love it if the board voted Elon out. I know it won’t happen because they’re a bunch of sycophants, but “Elons antics and poor decisions are causing us to lose money” is a great reason to do so.

If you’re building a music library, and you’re NOT using some sort of lossless format, I’d love to know why.

Because MP3 is the only thing my car stereo, my wife’s car stereo and my daughter’s book shelf system will reliably read. Sometimes they’ll work with an m4a, but it’s hit or miss.

Now I always rip to FLAC & MP3, but other than local listening, it tends to be all MP3’s that get used.

To be fair, the ones supporting this don’t think they are losing freedoms. They’re mostly in the groups unaffected by these changes, so it’s a bet positive in their eyes.

Everyone I know that would have left Facebook over this already left years ago during other scares/changes/security issues.

While I enjoyed having paper textbooks in school (until I got to college and they were $300+ each), when was the last time you seriously used a paper textbook to learn something new? In this day and age we have Google/Bing/Kagi and you’re going to search for the thing you need to know, pull up Wikipedia, read a few blog posts or the documentation from the project itself, and then apply what you learned.

We’re teaching children how better to survive in today’s world, not teaching them how to survive in our grandfathers world.

Now, my kid has read a few physical paperbacks for her high school English class, and reads plenty of physical books when she gets them from the library or buys them, but classwork is online, instruction is in person, and she seems to be doing just fine not carrying around 20lbs of paper every day. If anything I’d say her note taking has improved more than mine did when I assumed I could simply just open the book back up. This is the world we live in and she’s being taught how to survive in it.

I feel like that’s saying that my computer monitor needs a “killer app”.

It seemed like a straight forward AR/VR device to me. There’s plenty it can already do… virtual displays and apps in 3d space, privately and on the go is just a start… it’s just WAY too expensive for people to want to do so.

So, someone else forks it and then the contributors just fork that one. This is dumb gate keeping when there are other gates readily available nearby.

Pretty sure no one told this guy how FOSS is supposed to work or what licensing even means.

Best case scenario here he’s basically asking for is that the open source community forks this to a new project, stops contributing at all to the official one and since he’s announced he will literally have one developer work on this (45hrs per week, down from 4000 supposedly), the new fork becomes the defacto standard and his company is left peddling old wares full of bugs and exploits no one wants.

I feel like they’re feeling the crunch and this is just a sugar coated facade to cover up mass layoffs and financial pressure. Definitely a “look what you made me do!” Energy that gives off “hedging bets” because we’re likely losing vibes.

I try to mix brands and lots (buy a few from one retailer and some from another). I used to work for a storage/NAS company and we had many incidents when we’d fill a 12 or 24 drive raid with drives right from the same order and had multiple drives die within hours of each other. Which isn’t usually enough for replacement/resilvering.
