  • While it may seem like “it” and “it’s” are different forms of the same word, in reality they are completely different words

    he / his

    her / hers

    It / its

The above are all different forms of the same words.

“it’s” however is merely a shortening of “it is” and on that basis is a totally different word that (very misleadingly!) happens to sound exactly the same as “its”

    EDIT:

Another way of looking at this :)

his & he’s (shortening of “he is”) are different words in the same way, but nobody makes the mistake of writing or saying “he’s car” instead of “his car” - it’s obviously wrong because the words sound different - ‘hiz’ and ‘heez’

The same is exactly and identically true of “its” and “it’s’” but those words sound the same, so the mistake comes easily.

  • Exactly this. The majority of super-popular names now will all be “old person” names in future.

In turn, the “old person” names of the recently deceased generations, like ‘Florence’ and ‘Edith’ are starting to reappear and be given to children again, because with that old generation dead they are freed from the old-people stereotype and seem good again. It’s cyclical.

Amongst all names, there are some which are conversely a lot harder to date. Names that are always being given, but never top the popularity lists. Names like Mark, Thomas, or Matthew. Harder to date people with names like these, because there’s always plenty of them.

  • Adding on to this comment, it is very often not possible to change your auth method.

If you use email to register, you can almost always change to a different email (same method) but you can’t change between methods, like from Google auth to Apple auth, or even to a different google auth.

You’d need to create a new account, and therefore lose all the data on your old account.

Always choosing email gives you the most control and most privacy, I’d strongly recommend it.

  • I was almost convinced they were keeping this broken on purpose, it’s been broken so long. Like, years long.

It was broken so long I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if news surfaced that Discord was taking back-handers from Microsoft under the table to keep it broken. With steam working so well on Linux now, broken discord streaming without actual working audio share was one of the last things that posed a hurdle for gamers ditching Windows.

(In the meantime, thank you Vesktop for your service <3)

  • That, and a practical process of elimination.

Balance always looks good, in all things, so it’s desirable to have one hand on the left and one on the right, in a mirror of each other.

You don’t want to obscure the 9 or 3 positions because that’s where important elements like the day and date display will occupy.

You also don’t want to get too close to the 12 position because that would cover up the maker’s logo.

Wjth those constraints in mind, it’s a choice between like 10:10 or 8:20. Of the two, 8:20 points downwards and looks ‘sad’ and ‘droopy’ whereas 10:10 is upward and positive, and also acts like a frame to give the maker’s logo even more attention.

    So 10:10 it is.

Countries which use left hand drive drive on the left side of the road account for only a sixth of the world’s land area, but a full third of the population.

I suppose that’s because left hand drive driving on the left has some very dense populations, like Japan, UK and India

    Edit: terminology mistake
