That’s how every single company targeting consumer market in the web started. No profit for many years. Majority because of scale of the market. Facebook started making profit after 2012 so for 8 years they were burning money figuring out where to sell their soul to. Now the scale and risk for OpenAI is way bigger, because they have not sold their users fully or we don’t know if they sold it and for exchange for what. It would be funny if they at some point alter their privacy policy and turn out to sell people’s chats to advertising agencies. They might also go bankrupt or turned out to be a scam that hires thousands of people to answer questions.

Corporate will suck your soul and drink your blood when you’re young. They will take or steal everything they can from you to accumulate money, just to make sure you would not have any other options than work for them until you die or get old and become useless. After that if you’re lucky to climb the ladder they will push you off the building for certain death and replace with younger generation. Is that really the future we want ?

I am starting to believe that current “AI” is way for corporate to gatekeep the knowledge and as you said lead us to idiocracy. On the other hand people always amaze me on how they can collectively find the way out from these situations and turn the cards to their side. So there is always hope.

Writing code is last thing you want to do as senior SWE because every line of code is potential debt and maintenence problem.
The just write code bro, figure out things later attitude is good for R&D, MVP and POC that is like 10% of job.

Just like with art, writing code like drawing is just a skill. AI is trying to replace the obvious part (that is actually the reward from thinking and describing problem in your head) because it can’t replace thinking. Removing rewards bring us to depression, depression bring us to death.

Ergo AI will kill economy with no people left to replace it so we will end up to being monkas.
That’s why I’d say SWE will go to farm and wait untill people in cities will start starving to death because AI stopped working and there is nobody left to fix it.

The next thing seems to be the discord (or any instant messenger ) channel for the project. That’s my wild guess. I don’t like it but looks like people are shifting from the web to instant communicators, so the knowledge is not perserved.

It was called newspaper back in the day. Printing something was expensive so quality must have been good, that people were willing to read it. And social part was provided by posting letter to the newspaper adress with a hope to be printed.

Technically speaking every country is a company and government is supervisory board elected by citizens that are owners that pay wages that are called tax. Just the purpose of country establishement is different or used to be different before 21th century. Right now the differentce is not so much visible as it was 100 or even 1000 years ago where people that were government leaders (kings, princes, lords, army generals) fought with people for independence and human rights. Right now elected people are no different than influencers or actors. They just do stuff to get to the table, not more not less.

No it’s not. Just learn how to use search instead of doing it like it’s only for software developers. It’s not 1999 anymore.
