While I get that, Debian fits that role extremely well.

No 7 more or less converted my partner, she thought she disliked gin, their rye makes a fantastic old fashion as well.
I’m going to check out those as well, thanks for the recommendations!
Quite like Dillon’s, do some really fantastic gin too and they use a lot of local stuff, some interesting specialty stuff too if you’re into that.
Liked Glen Breton too, but has been some years since I’ve had that.
Their Batista oat milk is great too, I legit prefer oat milk to dairy for most things, tastes better in coffee drinks imo.
Just search TFW on the CBC’s website, program is just rife with abuse, both of workers and “improper” usage, it’s abhorrent to me.
It’s made worse that everything I’ve mentioned is from headlines over at least the last 2 decades. It’s not just agriculture either, Tim Horton’s has has them, so have other fast food places.
To be clear, I’m for these workers being here, they deserve to be safe to do their job, a good wage and if they want to stay, a way for them to become citizens.
Some of these have been around for a while or remind me of some, my crunchy new-age grandparents were hardcore into the NWO order stuff. Some others I recall
There’s others but those stick out.
He’s an Economist who’s run the central bank of what, 3 countries? Makes sense to me if his entire focus was long term stability that he’d be anti inequality and climate change.
Really looking forward to everyone dropping platforms.
Edit: Carney has a book Value(s): Building a Better World for All, might be worth looking at, probably going to give good insight into his views.
Really interested in seeing how the curds in the second recipe turn out, they look pretty close from the pictures, saving it to come back to thanks!
Was looking at Carney’s wiki page, he’s at least come out against income inequality in the past, viewed stuff like occupy as constructive, pro sustainable economy.
Hoping they all drop platforms if they haven’t already, LPC registration looks to be free, considering registering to vote in the leadership election (cut off is the 27th), not the party I align with (decidedly NDP), but they’re the ABC choice for a lot of people.
I thought that too when they started doing wooden condos in some areas of Canada, but it’s an engineered product (cross-laminated timber), not just plain wood. Apparently it’s super dense and chars instead of burning outright, some tests had them self extinguishing from this abstract (using a specific adhesive)
Edit: Found a full paper that might be interesting
Steel too, we produce a lot of specialty products used for automotive and construction, as well as a lot of tin plate used in food packaging and appliances. They produce material stateside of course but they do historically buy an awful lot from us.
When I worked in steel during the last tariffs, that company ended up eating them, with favourable exchange (see weak dollar) and tariffs jacking the spot prices they still managed record profits.
As @renegadespork@lemmy.jelliefrontier.net said, infant mortality is a concern with spinning disks, if I recall (been out of reliability for a few years) things like bearings are super sensitive to handling and storage, vibrations and the like can totally cause microscopic damage causing premature failure, once they’re good though they’re good until they wear out. A lot of electronics follow that or the infant mortality curve, stuff dying out of the box sucks, but it’s not unexpected from a reliability POV.
Shitty of Seagate not to honour the warranty, that’d turn me off as well. Mine is pettier, when I was building my nas/server I initially bought some WD reds, returned those and went for some Seagate ironwolf drives because the reds made this really irritating whine you could hear across the room, at the time we had a single room apartment so was no good.
Anxiety over missing my meds keeps me (mostly) on track, I do however forget to request refills until the last bloody moment though, love how the process for ADHD treatment is so anti ADHD…
First off, on reading, yeah sorry. I meant no offense, was the headline on the article I chose and I said, it really bothers me how disengaged Canadians are from our political system to the detriment of us all.
To be pedantic, Arthur Meighen was a Tory PM appointed after Borden resigned, and again after the Byng-King affair. More recently, Kim Campbell was appointed after the resignation of Mulroney
I do agree with you wrt our system needing changing, I’m vehemently in favour of literally anything but fptp but prefer something like stv. Personally, I’d also be in favour of rescinding the mandatory election dates put in place in what, 2007-2008 and really would like to return to the per-vote subsidies (just get money out of politics period).
While I can get your intent in that you feel that the PM should have a mandate (again, arguably that mandate is fulfilled if they are capable of maintaining confidence of the house), Canadians are ignorant about our system of government (anecdotally, I know Canadians who consume more American news media and pay attention to their elections, but don’t do the same domestically, likely contributing) which is a problem (and a point of irritation for me).
Our system is fundamentally different than the presidential republic that the yanks have, you do not vote for the PM, you vote for your rep. The PM is the person with confidence of the house, which often is the plurality party leader, but there’s no requirement of this at all, there’s history of the PM not even being an MP in Canada, two of them were senators who took office after the PM died.
Your MP is your voice, tell them to vote non confidence if you truly feel that an election should be called, I feel fairly safe to say however that once parliament resumes we’re going to see that happen anyhow and the writ dropped shortly thereafter or the PM asking to GC to dissolve parliament.
Kinda seems like a similar idea to the solar heating that Drake Landing in Okotoks Alberta has. Had a heat xfer prof in uni who was really passionate about that project in particular, and this was back in 2007, really don’t know why solar district heating like this doesn’t really seem to have caught on, afaik it works well.
Edit. I’m ootl, apparently that got decommissioned recently which sucks, was a really interesting idea, guess I have my answer as to why they didn’t catch on! It lasted far beyond the 4 year test period and supplied a large amount of the community’s heating needs, it’s cold in the winter in Okotoks so that’s even more impressive to me.
The thrash/trad vest I have I made myself (from someone else’s pattern though), diy is always good. Plus you can customise it, I did some flannel lining in places. Thrift or upcycle works just as well.
Bonus points for hand painted patches too, that’s beyond my ability but it’s def a thing, I just messed around with different stitching, a lot are hand sewn with stuff that’s like thick dental floss becauae I like the look, looks a lot better on my black/death vest though, studs/spikes aren’t my preference so I don’t have those.
There’s a bunch of different looks, different groups have their own style, depends on what you want to do, could go as far as some crust/patch pants or stick with the classic blue denim and band shirt look, shit I’ve seen flannel or military jackets turned into battle vests, just make it your own. I’ve always worn work boots to shows, that’s just what I have.
TL:DR, to me, diy is the point and historically a big part of the culture, do what you think looks cool.
Years of holiday retail soured me to it honestly, brings out the best in people…
Was a kubuntu person for a long time, I haven’t really loved the default Ubuntu DE for a while, but that’s personal preferences. At the end of the day, use what you like.
I personally like debian (swapped from Kubuntu over time) but keep mint on my thumb drive for family who needs something on older hardware, especially those used to windows it seems to be an easy jump. I love that there are so many options available to people with various levels of prepackaging and configurations.
